Not too sure how this happened. If anyone has any insight, please assist. This is huge for our company!!
Our Home page was ranked first on Google when you type in our company. Now we are ranked 6th and it is showing only our About page there.
Our Facebook is before it and even our 3rd party Facebook is before it. Any idea what could've happened?
Getting pretty fed up with Muse....
Thanks
-Michael

Like the above posts mention, this is not something that Muse did. There are a ton of factors involved in SEO. Are you monitoring your site with Google Webmaster? If so, was there a sudden spike in 404 errors?
What were the conditions of the search that caused you to initially think you were ranked number 1? If the business is a local business and you searched for the business, at the location of the business, using your phone, it's no surprise that it would have ranked 1st.
If you clicked on that

Which Site should we look at? SEO has almost nothing to do with Muse or Dreamweaver or WP or Joomla or whatever.
You have to do the SEO on all platforms you work with.
Other companies don`t sleep, everybody is running the whole day/the whole life to be the first.
Change your site periodically, create important content. Like this, try to create real traffic, find platforms to link onto your site, take care of page names/page properties and so on.
Your example just shows, that FB does better SEO than you do.
How did you take care for SEO till now?
Did you look at "5 Tips for better SEO with Muse" on youtube? Better run .

After re-uploading our old code, we rank sufficiently again at #1. Pretty odd!
Our web traffic had not changed from it either - just the way Google perceived our website. Not sure what the change could have been that I did on the new code, but whatever it was had fixed it. Going to factor in some more SEO options this week!

Yeah, that's not how search works though which is why you should read the above messages carefully.

6th is pretty good for a Google result but I would assume people are marking your site down because they didn't like it
p.s, yes this has buggerall to do with Muse

Have to agree with the others - there's simply no guarantee that your page will be in the top spot and as long as it is listed on the first page of a search things aren't actually that bad. A simple lack of activity such as too few visitors per day or not enough updates in a given time can easily lead to a quick decline. Perhaps your page is simply not interesting enough. Conversely, measures intended to prevent cheating tend to kick in only once a page reaches a certain popularity, resulting in a downgrade even if the page ranked first place initially. There's a million things that bear influence on this. in any case, since you haven't provided any info on what your page actually is, nobody can advise specifically.

If you clicked on that link and then clicked back, it's possible that if you did another search under the same conditions a week later, Google might lower the ranking of that site for your personal search result because, to them, you told them that the link they provided was not helpful.
In other words, it's highly unlikely that you're searching under conditions that accurately reflect reality.
With all of that said, there are things that can be done to improve your site's SEO. Here's a post that will help with improving your SEO in Muse.

There are gazillions of websites in the world and only 9-10 result slots per search page. It's fiercely competitive to get good page rankings and hold them.
If being on page 1 is important for your business, you should invest in some targeted Google AdWords. Google PPC Online Advertising | Google AdWords – Google

Hi Michael
Load speed is a ranking factor as we have talked about before. Muse writes a lot of code to achieve what it does. This code does take up more load time...particularly on the typical slow connection speeds of a mobile device. Google and others are now placing more importance on the time it takes for your page to load. Slower is bad. That said there are enough other things you can do that usually over come this short coming.
How long was your website ranked #1?
For what search term(s)?
The websites recommended are a good starting place. It takes months if not years to get good at SEO contrary to advice you might receive. Just practice good basic SEO and you will be way ahead of most other sites in the long run. Tweaking your sites endlessly can actually hurt you.

Hello Everyone,
Thanks a lot for your responses.
So I went ahead and uploaded the older version of our website, before I made changes to the contact page.
Once I uploaded the older version, we jumped right back into the number 1 spot on Google when you search for our company.
Seems kind of odd that it would happen, but it somehow did.
I will take a look into Google Adwords today.
I really appreciate everyone's time and consideration!
Thanks!!!

i can agree that some sites rank worst after changing the layout, it has happened to me too, with a website that was always ranking 1st , changed layout completely and we ranked 7th or worst for long time.
it has many aspects loading speed is one, but also the internal lins and tags and keyword dnesity all those things may be way different in a fancy layout but not as fancy in the eyes of a web spider.

Not quite entirely correct...”page load” the time it takes for a page(s) to load can and does effect rank. If all else is equal...ie content etc and one site loads faster because the code is leaner it will get ranked higher.
Sarch engines like Google will and do take page load as a ranking factor. That said many newer platforms Word Press included have tons of code to help render web pages. There is much more to know. After 20 years of doing SEO you learn a thing or two. There is a lot of misinformation about SEO.
