Not sure what i did but I have a problem in the plan mode. Several of the pages are greyed out, including the master page. I can't double click to open them. Greyed out or not. I can't delete them either from the X icon or right clicking them.

Thoughts?

I ended up having to force quit and then I was able to re-open, then I deleted everything but the Home and Master. What may have happened was I duplicated the Home page so I had the elements I wanted on the new page. Probably not the wisest thing I could have done.

Nope, That wasn't it. It's doing the same thing again.

I can't open anything from the Plan page, delete etc.

The contents of the Story page do not show up on the Plan page preview.

I can't quit

I can go into the tab and open the page from there, work on it etc. but the plan mode is locked up.

Thoughts?

looks like Muse can't load the master page... is there some 3rd party code in it or a file link to a drop box perhaps?

No, I have been trying to make this as vanilla as possible so I can avoid problems. I guess the most exotic thing is the stock youtube widget on one of the pages.

Muse must be an incredibly complicated app for the Adobe Development team to work on.

Being a non-coder, I look at the framework and it seems so simple. "I want this to be here and that to go there and when I do this - that should happen"    No! is the answer I keep getting back.

antivirus, lack of ram (are you running facebook | skype in the background)... all I have to go on so far is one image and that says muse can't load the page.

if you share the .muse file then we can have a look at it for you... it could be a corrupt file

So weird! I went to this forum to check on any helpful advice and there was a:

System Error

We're sorry but a serious error has occurred in the system.

Message in the chrome browser when I went to it...ok the forum is down.

Check again this morning...same same.

Pull up firefox...loads fine. Strange.

Anyway, Is there a way to "fix" the corrupt muse file? Or do I need to rebuild the whole thing again?

No, I have nothing running in the background, all the RAM is up and functioning (16gb). No new plugins, no anti Virus software running...I mean...LOTS...LOTS of anti-Virus software...and a crack team of specialists monitoring my system 24-7 for even the slightest intrusion into my...well...my boring life.

I am simultaneously filming, editing, recording the video for the website and building the website...and trying to figure out the oddities of Muse...Good times!

Did I mention I have a meeting in the morning to show the hopefully completed project?

In my case, rarely, when I face greyed pages, it takes some time, and it works.

Could you provide the .muse via dropbox or CC or similar file sharing?

Just take the whole .muse.

We could try to open and look if we face the same error/issue.

How "big" is your .muse. Just to prepare our HD´s

So I have been going into a page doing "things" save as I go...open another page...do more things....go into the plan page and it is all hung up.

Play around, let me know what you think I did wrong...well...wrong in terms of the structure or files. Everything else is about interpretation of aesthetics.

I found some unhelpful elements outside your canvas – who taught you to put anchors outside the canvas?

I have no idea how to prevent the submenu from appearing outside your canvas.

Muse freezes with your file on my machine – Yosemite/latest Muse – I had to force quit Muse.

I have no idea why your page "Off Grid" is the same than your master and why you put it in pages rather than in Master section?

I deleted this page and I could save and quit muse without hazzle.

Dani Beaumont!....she told me to do it that way...and I quote:

"Because of the nature of the web, and the way that Muse builds it's page, you're going to want to put your anchors to the left of the active page. As we build out a responsive design, things will go better for us in this way."

She then proceeds to place them out where you found mine.

The sub menu seems to be indifferent to whether or not they extend past once I load it into the browser or even to Business catalyst.

The off grid page has nothing on it at this stage...so thats why it is exactly the same as the masterpage.

so, I went to the file (thanks for that) and shuffled things around on the page, but didn't delete anything. went back to plan mode. locked up. So I will go back and move em one at a time and see whats what.

please open the master page, goto the black square and remove the AI file... replace with just a plan black fill and then tell me if the "off grid" page still locks up for you?

cuzimeasy I had a quick look at this site and to my eyes its VERY heavy... the story page is the worst and opening it will lock up most systems simply because it overloads what Muse can place in ram.

I will try to get it tonight but some points;

  • use web fonts
  • the form address will fail on most host servers because it doesn't match the domain... is may not be an issue on Adobe BC but if you host 3rd party put your email 2nd and test
  • the mater page black fill is too big as a ai file and doesn't add much to the design imo... its your site however
  • layers are your best bet here those heading menus overlap each other and putting some extra layers in will tidy it up a lot

When you say it is "heavy" Whats on the story page that makes it heavier than the home page?

It's funny,  I was saying to my wife that Muse really is cool and I want it to work really badly, but it's almost as if they need to strip it down to what is known to work. Typekit doesn't work?. Cool, just don't make it available. Scroll effects creates chaos? Be done with it and get rid of it. I am this close to getting a WIX template!

So the black bar on the masterpage only comes in at  0.54 KB. Is it the file format that is the problem? It can't logically be the half a KB...could it?

Ubuntu is a google font, isn`t it? You should set is as webfont in the font dropdown. If it is not there you could "import" it.

Scroll effects are only with fixed width breakpoints. Then they do not create chaos. Why does typekit do not work? There were some issues in the past few weeks bt I think they (Adobe) had a fix for it, hadn`t they?

Of course you are free to use Wix, but as far as I see, it is kind of stuck to templates with some replacement features, Muse is a freeform, almost WYSISWG editor and most stuff from Wix can be done in Muse as well. Wix, like many others mostly use simple menu

structure and little content so everything looks fine and smart, once you need more pages, more content, it could get heavy.

I understand your frustration, though, but to learn muse will take some time, ask the forum in early stages and it could help a a lot.

Once you accept some boundaries in muse (like no scroll effects in fluid width layouts) it works pretty good.

I won`t open your  file right now, I hadn`t gone that deep into your file I must admit like Ussnorway​  did.

AI (black bar on master) has no advantage over a simple black filled rectangle.

lots of little mistakes add up... Muse will let you do things you shouldn't do because you are the web designer and its up to you to know that pin = bad on any device starting with I and gradients are ignored by windows phones so if your site only needs to work on a desktop and menu bars that go nuts on ipads or gradients that become blank white boxes are ok (nothing to do with Muse)

you may have noticed your computer slow down when making it... the file itself is small but the computer that tries to use it has to do the work figgering out how it gets rendored. small avi files work well for icons

Wow. I have no idea whats going on. I have been completely unable to get onto the forum all day regardless of the browser I use. Then all of a sudden I am back on. For now anyway. (if anybody knows what to do about the: "System Error: We're sorry but a serious error has occurred in the system."  message when trying to get access to the forum, please let me know. I tried checking the forum...but...haven't been able to get onto it until now and I don't want to move from this page in fear I won't get back on!

Sorry about my frustration about my self inflicted muse problems. I have taken a screen shot of all your suggestions/points and they are noted. I know I have created a mess for myself. I started out all organized with layers and folders and as I had problems I would migrate to a new site and grab items from the last iteration slap em on the page and it compounded and compounded.

NOTE TO ANYONE NEW TO MUSE WHO IS READING THIS: Be smarter than me!

Good news though! I had my meeting and he really liked what he saw. So now I will start from scratch and make it smoother.

As per your issue description, I find this quite relative to a bug appeared in current update of Muse with Youtube and Vimeo widgets.

Please confirm if you have placed a Youtube or Vimeo widget on your site and try removing it to see if the issue resolves.

We have already raised a bug for this issue and looking for more use cases to prioritize the hotfix.

I request all the other community members as well to update this thread with their respective observations with YouTube or Vimeo widgets.

Thanks for the confirmation.

At this moment we are suggesting a workaround either remove the affected widgets or not to double click the design pages in Plan mode (because nothing happens).

You could keep working by using 'cmd-J' or 'ctrl-J' (go to go page) and I keep saving the project.

Muse will not freeze as long as you don't use 'Quit'.

We are working on to fix this issue on priority.

I'm aware of the rendor issue in youtube and vimeo widgets but didn't encounter it while working on his files.

the double click workaround is news to me but all my systems are single click setups and ime a system restart is needed to clear the lock because even opening "windows task manager" and hitting "end task" for Muse doesn't free up the process... if anyone wants to post an example showing this 'double click' workaround that would be helpful?

Hey, Ussnorway sorry if I was unclear.

What I meant to say was, we need to avoid any double clicks on the pages in plan mode as it is when the blocker is activated.

Instead for navigating to other pages we shall use Cmd-J / Ctrl - J which will at least won't freeze the application.

perhaps I'm the one not being clear... I'll try to cover it without getting all cod

  • ok step one = is the rendor that makes the problem i.e, anytime the widget moves to a new layer or gets a different file it will try to rendor and that is the base cause of all other porblems.

once you have done this you are not going to clear the process (system restart needed) but you can avoid a muse lock by one of two work arounds.

doing anything on the tab line will lock muse i.e, yellow = bad!

goto the file menu and use 'save as' (not just save) to keep the changes then use 'close site' (from the file level options) to get back to the main ui... you could also just use 'close site' without saving the changes as long as you do it from the file level i.e, green = good

  • even now your system will still be waiting (forever) and you can't reopen that site

some points; Muse asks the system rendor engine to make this and that caused issues with finding the cause because people can't just take a screenshot of the error. that is also why a simple task manager - end task doesn't cover you because opening Muse back up and redoing your work will keep adding rendor tasks to the system i.e, fans start to spin more and the system heats up | slows down... Windows users will eventually hit critical point and the system will force a shutdown to avoid damage.
