When I use the reCAPTCHA 2 for a simple form I get the error "The server encountered an error".
If I switch back to reCAPTCHA it works fine.
My server guys says we need to find out which php modules need to be installed to use reCAPTCHA 2.
Could anyone offer any suggestions?
....thanks in advance

Have you verified the Recaptcha key?
Please send me a screenshot of your form widget settings window.

I tried the solution but the client is using a Windows-based server. What needs to be modified on the web.config file for this to work?

Hi,
In the document that Ankush linked to -- reCAPTCHA 2.0 server error -- SOLVED -- you will see the following:
The PHP option for ‘url_fopen’ was not getting set correctly. It was set to ‘Off’, when it needed to be ‘On’ in order for the form to be submitted successfully.
You can ask your web host tech support to check this setting in the PHP.INI file. That file resides on the server, not on your computer.
OR.... you can use your hosting service control panel to edit the PHP file yourself. If your host happens to use cPanel, you'll want to log on and look for the MultiPHP INI Editor. The first item is allow_url_fopen. Set that to ON.
This may not be the problem for you, but it is what solved the issue for me.

Aren't we losing security as noted by: Christ-Fowel
25. Re: reCaptcha 2.0 not showing up from Muse 2017

"Let me help with that question.
Lots of forums here are having an issue with Adobe Muses 2017 Recaptcha. The way Adobe is asking people to "fix" it is by turning on the allow_url_fopen on your server. For most people, this has fixed there issue. For me it still didn't work, which isn't the point here. BUT even if it did, I wouldn't use it... BECAUSE...
The fix Adobe is asking people to do is counteractive [counterproductive]. As we use Recaptcha to reduce spammers/hackers and improve security, what Adobe is asking is to reduce our security for this feature to work. Enabling this feature would actually put you in a more venerable situation then before when you didn't have the recaptcha in my opinion."

This has been an issue for months now... I am unable to work out whether it is the Google Recaptcha Code, My Hosting companies server setup or indeed Muse itself. You are correct that the reCAPTCHA 2.0 server error -- SOLVED"
Is not a valid or indeed even working solution for myself and many others.
Could somebody from Adobe please address their opinion on this as a matter of importance please. I am now forced with the decision of having to move all of my clients sites and email accounts to alternative hosting which will be nothing short of an utter nightmare.
What is odd in my experience is that the forms work perfectly using some hosting companies but not with others. I am using shared hosting with an established hosting company (Blacknight) and receive "Server encountered an Error" on all forms across all sites. They claim that all is setup correctly on their serverside and that the code (Muse) is at fault. 1 & 1 hosting works absolutely perfectly. All forms, All sites... ??
Recaptcha V2 did used to work until my server company 'upgraded their servers'. I cannot work out whether or not there is a coincidence here or not. My hosting company claim that allowing "allow_url_fopen” and “file_get_contents" to be adjusted is a security breach although other hosting companies claim this is not the case?
Can anyone offer some clarity here please? I fail to believe that Googles recaptcha V2 is coded with a security flaw but maybe...?
Is Muse outputting outdated code? Or is my hosting company out of date or doing something better and more secure than their competition?
Someone... Anyone?

Hi a5tranger. The problem does not appear to be Google and probably not your Google codes. The problem appears to be with the php.ini code, at least as far as I know. Anyway, I finally contacted my web hosting service provider, Network Solutions (Web.com) about two weeks ago and paid them $19.99 to have a "Support Specialist" fix it. I would like to be able to give you more specific information but the "Support Specialist" did not seem inclined share. I'm fairly sure that equals job security for him. From my perspective, it's probably something that should have been included in the payload of the Muse reCAPTCHA2 Widget to begin with. If other coding needed to be added, it would have been helpful if Muse had passed along that information.
I have noticed that the pictures you are supposed check, that show road signs or vehicles, doesn't show up in every web browser. Pictures showed up in Firefox and Google Chrome but did not show the pictures in Safari, Explorer, or Edge, browsers. However, the check box did work on ALL Five browsers, and did send the completed form to the proper destination from all Five browsers.
When I inquired about why only two of the browsers displayed the pictures, this was the Web.com Support Specialist's response:
"The Captcha issue was just for us to resolve the failure of ReCaptcha to display. The form was coded with Adobe Muse, and we cannot influence the type of captcha as this is a proprietary software. You will need to make necessary adjustments to your Muse code to dictate the type of Captcha displaying. That said, looking at the form, it is displaying the Google ReCaptcha V2 format, which is a checkmark box."
"Update us with any other issues."
I'd say contact your web hosting provider.
By the way, how do you feel about Adobe ditching Muse?
