This reminds me of the time Adobe discontinued Freehand. A similar petition was set up, and the Freehand community even took legal action, and the key members behind these steps were invited to Adobe to discuss why it was impossible to open source or sell Freehand.
In short, don't hold your breath. Adobe has a nasty habit of starting and discontinuing products that are related to web work. Fireworks, Flash (player), GoLive, Edge Animate, and a number of other related applications.
If history teaches us two thing is that:
1) Adobe doesn't really understand the web or its developers, designers, and asset creators;
2) Adobe will introduce new promising looking applications, only to pull the rug from under their users more often than not.
To be fair, a business is a business. Adobe has shareholders, and Adobe is accountable to those first and foremost. Not to their users.
