Poppins family is free google fonts family and when I downloaded and installed it is neither showing in installed font list adobe muse nor self-hosting font option detecting it when I drag and drop fonts over it. Can anyone help me with this problem?
You need all three types of the google font for getting the self hosted options of your font.
For me a good way, found/get told in this forum watch out this:
Create Your Own @font-face Kits » Font Squirrel
Clicking the expert checkbox leads to a new window like this:

You should not do this with fonts from different providers but only with the appropriate license of course (not for technical purposes but for copyright purposes).

In addition to Uwe:
If you download the „web font“ from Google, you normally only download code snippets to integrate the font into your site.
Muse works in a different way: You have to install the .ttf version of the fonts in your system and provide the .woff, .eot and .svg files for Muse, using the respective panel inMuse’s font menu.
If you want to download the complete web font set of „Poppins“, try this link: https://google-webfonts-helper.herokuapp.com/fonts/poppins?subsets=latin

Also in addition to Günter Heißenbüttel , I normally download the font anyway and not only the code snippet, as I try to use this font for any other purposes as well for folders, businesscards, brochures, … .

Nope .
I follow "my" instructions step by step with source sans pro.
- Download the fonts from fonts.google.com
- Move the folder with all fonts into my … library/fonts
- open font squirell
- choose all fonts from this familiy
- make the affordable setups (Expert) with WOFF, EOT compressed, SVG
- move that newly, created by fontsquirell, folder into the same location as my clients site
- change to muse, do that one necesaary step in adding webfonts (search for fonts-check the folder with the font kit) and all fonts show up fine.
Did you do the exact same steps? Checked at font squirell all necessayry checkboxes?

Uwe

I followed your instructions actually Mr. Günter Heißenbüttel was right actually the problem was font duplication. I had fonts both into Windows > Fonts library and folder I was adding to the self-hosting option. Moreover, I had two variations of muse installed in my pc I uninstalled both and reinstalled latest one and deleted fonts in the folder I added into self-hosting option while keeping the same fonts in windows=>Fonts Library intact.
Thank you guys for being so responsive and keeping forums alive.

btw if fonts are even installed on system shouldn't adobe muse pick that font too ? instead of self-hosting that font?

Yes, of course you may use these system fonts (as long as the font format is supported; Postscript Type 1 isn’t).
But you will have to accept heavy drawbacks, if you use such fonts: The major one: Since nobody can guarantee, that these fonts are installed on your visitor’s machines (especially on phones and tablets), text, using these fonts has necessarily to be converted to an image during output.
This causes (a) reduced SEO capabilities and above all a different scaling behaviour of your „text“ elements: Text boxes are scaling only horizontally, images in width and height. This may heavily mess up your design in browser view.
Just read my answer 4 in this thread: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2357163
