P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

I updated both Photoshop 2023 and Beta.

Using right-click on photo in Lightroom Classic 12.4 to 'Edit in Adobe photoshop 2024'

Photoshop Beta 25.0.0 launches but photo doesn't open immediately.  Error thrown in Lightroom that Photoshop 2024 can't be launched.

Eventually photo does open in Photoshop Beta but it takes a while.

When opening a file from Lightroom Classic 12.4 using "Edit in Photoshop" edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments (Windows 10) I get an error the file could not be opened.

If I follow the same process but with edit original, the file opens without a problem.

In my case, the image does show up in PS Beta after 6-8 minutes.

Bonjour,

Claudio

I have exactly the same problem in Mac OS 13.4.1 Ventura and Lightroom 12.4 . "Edit in Photoshop 2023" and "Open as layers in Photoshop" do not work. Photoshop opens, but the RAW files in Lightroom do not open.

FYI... The update to Photoshop (Beta) on 7/29/2023 appears to have resolved this problem.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.

Same problem here, this seems to have happened after a recent update.  I can open a file directly from photoshop normally but there is no file opening from Lightroom.  I don't get the normal "open as a copy....." dialog and nothing happens.  This is for both photoshop and beta.

All, I just found a thread that suggested deleting photoshop then lightroom via the Adobe desktop app.  Then reinstall Photoshop then Lightoom.  I did that and it seems to have corrected the issue.  Definately a bug with an update.

Can you tell me if deleting Lightroom remove or affect the Library? Or did it just replace the application and keep everything else intact? I have 135,000 photos organized and processed.

Today there was an update of Photoshop Beta, still doesn´t work.
That´s pretty bad and I don´t want to step back to older versions.

Same problem since last LRC update (Windows 11 user), when I try I get the dialog box offering three options, if I ignore the first one saying to use a copy with Lightroom updates and just choose second Copy option that opens it for me. Hoping for a patch soon as I don't fancy unistalling and reinstalling everything.

I removed Photoshop only and reinstalled and that solved the problem. Lightroom files now open in Photoshop with no problem.

After the last updates to Photoshop 24.7 / Photoshop beta 25.0 the "edit in photoshop" functionality is bugged. When trying to edit it in Photoshop this way, it takes several minutes and an error message in Lightroom, before the file opens in Photoshop.

I'm using a Windows 11 PC with Ryzen 3800x with 32GB of RAM and both windows and adobe software installed on a SSD. Lightroom is version 12.4, camera raw 15.4.1.

Using the command photoshop will open (if it's not open already) but the selected image in lightroom won't open. After waiting for several minutes (mote than 5), Lightroom will show an error dialogue:

"The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be started."

This is not correct, as Photoshop did indeed start. After confirming the error dialogue with ok, the image will immediately open in Photoshop.

This problem started the the latest updates to Photoshop (both 24.7 and 25 are affected). If I open Photoshop before the use "edit in" in Lightroom, the image will eventually open after the error message in Lightroom appears.
There were no changes done to my PC or windows (including no windows update) before the error occured. The only thing that happened were the updates to Photoshop and Photoshop beta.

It doesn't affect your catalog in any way, but you do not have to uninstall / reinstall Lightroom. You need to do that with Photoshop.
