P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Hi there,

I have LR Classic and Photoshop 2023 newest versions on my iMAC with OS ventura. I also installed PS beta (unfortunately) and wanted to edit in PS beta. After setting the prefenences it di not work. I removed PS beta and reinstalled LR Classic and PS 2023 and check the preferences are set to Adobe PS 2023. It is. Then tried to edit photos in PS 2023, by clicking on "open layers in Photoshop". PS opens and that's it - nothing happens. This is now a real pain. Any suggestions or help and assistance out there to get wotking like it did before? Btw, I am not ineterested on work arounds or tricks. It workied before I installed and used PS beta, and I want it to work again like it did before.

Thanks and regards,

Marc

It's a known issue. The workaround around at present is to downgrade to an earlier version of Photoshop Beta using the Creative Cloud App. I've attached screenshot showing the steps involved.

Also. note that your post will likley be merged into the Photoshop Beta thread already dedicated to the issue.

After the last Photoshop Update I am not able to edit Pictures from LR Classich in Photoshop, from the "Edit in" Option. It takes 30 Seconds to open a Error "File could not be edited, because Photoshop 2024 was not opening" and after that, the Picture is showing up in Photoshop. Another annoying Thing is, that LR is taking a full copy of the Picture, everytime i swap the Application. This is slowing down my Workflow a lot. I could help myself by installing an older Camera Raw version (14.5 instead of 15.4) and forcing to render the LR Changes in Lightroom, but LR is still doing Copies. I tried everything from cleaning LR and PS Preferences, to completely reinstall everyting from Scratch. The Behavior persists.

All,  sad to report this hasn't fixed the issues.  I have some photos that open and others that don't.  This is also inconsistent between the beta version and standard version of photoshop.  I am unable to find a consitent behavior.

When exporting a CR3 file from lightroom to PS beta to edit, I get a long delay, and then (on the second or third try) an error message below-

"The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop (Beta) could not be launched."

Once cleared, it is followed by another error:

"AgStoreProviderSession:getEntityByID: id must be a number or string."  before the file eventually opens in photoshop beta.

I will no longer use the Beta version. At first Lightroom limited selection to Beta only. A workaround was to open Photoshop first. With the latest Beta version some bug prevented images from opening in either version of Photoshop. However an image could be opened from Bridge into photoshop.
I've removed the Beta and not tempted to reload it.

Windows 10 user getting a similar problem, which only started today, where I get a message that my exported photo cannot be edited as it can't open Photoshop 2024. Until today, I was using the Beta without any problems. I updated both PS and PS Beta today and LRc hasn't worked properly since.

I have also been seeing that there is a delay sometimes in opening the file.  I made several attempts to open a file and it never opened then about 5 min later photoshop opened and there were several copies of the file I was trying to open.  Definately new and frustrating.

Since updating both PS and PS Beta today, I cannot export images directly from LRc into either application. If I try to import an image into either application from the File Explorer it won't have my LRc edits and I have to start all over with Camera Raw. I use Windows 10, which I also updated today.

Hi!

Photoshop does not create new file when I right-click the photo and select Edit in Photoshop in Lightroom Classic. Lightroom just opens Photoshop and nothing happens.

Hope they get it sorted out quickly . Also the open as layers is not working either, but suspect this is due to overall opening issue

Updated Photoshop Beta today (version 25). Now, when I attempt to edit in Photoshop from Lightroom Classic (v 12.4), Photoshop Beta launches, but does not open the raw file I selected in LRC. After a few minutes of nothing, I get the following error message from LR: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched." Note that I can still launch Beta and open/edit files without using LRC. Before the update, I could open Beta from LRC just fine. Is there a way to revert to the previous version of Beta?

I was enjoying the generative features of Photoshop beta but now cannot get there from either Lightroom classic or from my file. Updated beta today. It was working great before. What happened?
