P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

As far as I know, Lightroom classic is not in beta and it's there that the problem is situated. So don't be so arrogant as to teach subscribers a lesson about beta versions. best regards.

If the photo has been previously edited in PS, it will open without error mostly.  Those photos that has never been PS, and was originally in RAW or jepg format in LRc, you will get the error.  Techically the link is working but this link doesn't recognize file extension other than .TIF. It's probably the reason some people reported "it works sometime but not working now".

It is a very simple patch but it's weird that adobe don't patch it quickly.

Can someone help me to stop getting 50 emails a day on this post? I've turned over every notification on my preferences yet the emails still keep blowing my phone up all day. I want to keep up but this is ridiculous. Thanks! I see the email me with someone replies under this reply preview. I'm unchecking it and hoping that stops it but if I didn't on my other replies am I just stuck? The option isn't there to go edit and remove it on the old replies that I can find either.

Go to your account settings in the Adobe Cloud application. It’s under Notifications. Look around. You’ll see you are probably asking to be notified when posts are made to this thread.

  1. after right clicking on an image in Lightroom Classic and selecting " edit in photoshop 2024" about 20* I'm eventually met with the original " what to edit " menu with options
" Edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments"
    " edit a copy "
    " Edit original "
And then it will allow me to edit in Photoshop and save back to lightroom.

In my limited understanding of programming it looks like the " what to edit " menu is broken.Screenshot_116.png

Super frustrated with the updated version of Ps (Beta). I've read through multiple discussions about this topic and have tried EVERY suggestion to fix it and still theres a minute and 47sec delay before I recieve a popup, to only be able to click "okay" and then an added 20 seconds later be brought to Ps (Beta).

This has become a huge part of my workflow and is hindering valuable time for me. Someone needs to fix this ASAP PLEASE!!!! I cannot have a 2 minute delay between photos while editing...

My workflow:
Edit the photo in Lichtroom and press CMD (or CTRL) + S to save the metadata when youre done.
Drag the photo from Lightroom to Photoshop. It wil open in Camera Raw. Click Open.
When youre done editing save the photo in the same location as a PSD or TIFF
In Lightroom go to the Library, right click on the folder and choose Synchronise Folder to import the saved PSD or TIFF in Lightroom.

Sounds like you have not tried my work around. Opening file in PS 2023 from LR before trying tooot open in it in PS 2024 beta. I posted the recipe numerous times. It works 100% of the time.

To set it up so that both PS versions work in Adobe Lightroom. In preferences select as your second open as navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2023\ and select Photoshop.EXE.

  1. To edit a file right click and select edit in then click Photoshop.exe then click Edit a copy with LR adjustments.
  2. Close PS and it will save the file to Lightroom (my settings are set to save as a tiff file). You must close PS 2023.
  3. Go to edit in again and click Photoshop 2024 (first choice for open in is the beta version) then chose Edit original. You can now use beta 2025 to edit in. Do your work and close.
  4. Go back to Lightroom and if you see a window saying that it could not open the file go to File Explorer and find the tiff file that you just saved and move it to a new location or rename it. If you do not Photoshop beta will overwrite it and remove your edits.
  5. If necessary, you can right click and synchronize the folders to get your file back in Lightroom and continue editing in Lightroom beta which now recognizes that file and will open it. Opening as layers does not work. Selecting more than one wile to open works.

Since the recent update of Camera Raw to 15.5, I have not been able to "Edit in... Photoshop 2023" with certain images. I never had problems until the recent update. I tried uninstalling the beta version of photoshop in case there was some confusion on paths... but that did not help. I can still compelete this task with any JPG or TIF as long as I click "edit orginial file" or a copy of the original... I cannot complete this task with any RAW files or if I try to edit "a copy with lightroom adjustments" with the Jpgs/tifs. Photoshop will open (or pop up), but the image will not appear. Since the recent update to version 25, I've been encountering an issue every time I attempt to import a photo from Lightroom into Photoshop. A warning message pops up, indicating that Photoshop is unable to open the image. After clicking "OK," the image does open, but in the TIFF format. I decided to revert back to the previous version, which resolved the problem. However, now whenever I try to utilize the generative fill feature, I am prompted to update to the latest version (the one with the bug). Has anyone else encountered this issue?

On the current version of LR Classic and PS Beta. Open in PS is not working correctly. PS opens, but does not open the file. Then after 5-10 attempts and a few minutes error codes occcur in LR Classic stating the following:

"The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

Then the file opens.

Posting this in hopes in can be fixed; newest version of PS Beta (25.0) is now seen by Lightroom Classic (ver. 12.4) as Adobe Photoshop 2024. This breaks the "edit in" different program feature of LR, as now when I try to send an image over for work in a different program, I get the error from LR that the program Adobe Photoshop 2024 couldn't be opened/found. I have researched online and tried uninstalling/reinstalling, as well as playing with prefences and settings within both programs to no avail.

This issue severly limits my editing flow and ability to switch back and forth between programs. The only reason I am not running the older version of PS Beta (24.7 I believe) is because the Gen AI feature became unresponsive in that version and is only working for me in the newest version 25.0

Thank you guys so much for looking into this bug! Windows 10 Pro OS 64bit

1. Lightroom Classic 12.4, Photoshop Beta 25.0

2. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

3. Open LR Classic, select photo, right click, "Edit in", pop up menu will show as my screenshot did. Other versions of PS you have installed will appear in drop down, but one of them and attempting the edit in feature still attempted to open Adobe PS 2024 first, then opened my photo after much delay in the other version of PS. Was able to save photo back after it was opened in this second version after intial error message, but takes forever. About 1-2 minutes for error to appear and then launches other PS version and opens image immediately.

4. Expected result is for photo to open in correct version of PS Beta (25.0), and for LR Classic to recognize PS Beta 25.0 as Adobe Photoshop 2023 or whatever it was in the version before this one (PS Beta 24.7 vs 25.0).

Actual result; I get an error as posted in my image, click OK, then image immediately opens in other working version of PS. Seems as if lightroom is searching for PS 2024, not finding it and rendering error, and then falling back to actual version of PS Beta (25.0) Basically, image does not open as it should upon first click and instead produces error which must be cleared, and then image is opened in the correct version of PS (Beta 25 in this case as I have no other versions installed on my PC at the moment)

Hi, Axel Matt, you don't even have to open the file manually as there is an option at the bottom of the export setup where you can open PS beta once the export is complete. All credit to RichPolk who originally posted this workaround.
Export as a .pdf , you can even tick the add to catalogue option which will be updated when you close the working file. It's a great temporary fix until Adobe come up with a proper solution.

Just as the subject states...... I can no longer "edit" in Photoshop from LR. Nothing has changed on my hardware or software.

I installed PS beta weeks ago, so that's not the issue. I'm changed preferences in LR to try and launch PS beta vs PS but the result is the same.

And I've tried the standard fixes of reboot, re-install, use pinky finger on the mouse, and much much more. All I need is the damn thing like it was before Adobe "fixed/updated" the S!#$%!

Can't seem to find a way to edit my original message. Maybe someone can add that to my help ticketssssss.

*** Trying to edit photos from LR classic to PS(latest update) opens PS but not the actual raw(nef) image. all CC updates have been applied.

Also,  Is it possible to edit a post? This seems pretty basic even for Adobe

As per RichPolk to Export the file, you can also use.tiff if that is what you are used to.

When is this going to be fixed?  If you roll back to 24.7 to open images in photoshop beta, then you can't use Generative Fill.  If you upgrade to version 25, then you can't open images from Lightroom Classic.

Thanks for the info. I had tried the export first on the fly, because I'm busy on the last days. In the meantime I've already see this option and I'm try to optimize this workaround.

If you have installed Photoshop Beta 25.0 it's a known issue.

P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Errone... - Adobe Support Community - 13966962

You  can rollback to Beta version 24.7

I've heard about this issue also about systems there's no Beta installed.

In this case try this: Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Application to uninstall Photoshop. When asked, keep preferences! After this reinstall Photoshop again.

If this doesn't help the nest step is to reinstall both apps Lightroom and Photoshop. Please follow the steps below:

1. Open the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Client and uninstall both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. When asked, keep preferences!

2. Install Photoshop first and then Lightroom Classic. The right order is very important here!

If this doesn't help try the reinstallation with removing the preferences also.

If this also doesn't help try to rollback to Photoshop 24.6
