P: 'Select People' hangs when added to an Action

Community Beginner ,
Sep 26, 2025 Sep 26, 2025

- Photoshop Beta 27.0 on Windows (updated today ;-))

I have 'Select Subject' - 'Upper Clothes' as a step (2nd step) in an Action..

  Select People

  Without Select All People

  People: 1

  Tags: "Upper clothes"

Happens whether i run the full action or I step through.  Also tried 'With Select All People'  but only 1 person in any of my images.  The only way to get out is to hit esc a bunch of times, otherwise, it just sits there spinning......

It worked fine until 27.0, and still works in 26.11...

Running select from an action hangs up.

Previous versions would ignore tags it couldn't find, v27 causes a hang if it can't find a tag

Action: Select Skin
Select People
Without Select All People
People: 1
Tags: “Facial skin”, “Upper body skin”, “Arms”, “Hands”, “Legs”
10, 13, 14, 15, 16
Make
New: channel
At: mask channel
Using: reveal selection

I got the same problem. I always use an action to automatic select a subject and create a mask for it. In former versions of the beta this works great. My action selected the whole person and created a mask, same with their skin, their hair and their shirt. But now the action stops when it should select.

I use MacBookPro, M3 max, 64GB, Sequoia 15.6.1 with beta 27.0

I think I found something. My action works, as long as it is the same person and a similar framing. But with another person, or if the action was recorded on a closeup and I try to apply it on a fullshot, it doesn´t work anymore.

This is kind of sad, because I really love the possibilty to create one action to select diffrent parts of a person and masks automatically, that works on all my portrait projects. This made my work so much faster.

I hope this gets fixed soon.

Thanks @franklin_3331 and @hellkaterules for the report on this -- I've been able to reproduce this one with beta and have logged a bug for the team to investigate a fix for.

Regards,

Pete

I don't know why this is happening, but it happens on the stable version and also on the Beta.

When I manually use the "Select person" tool, for selecting a dress, shoes, it works as expected.

But when I run an action for that, it keeps stuck and loading forever, and i can't even stop the action...

It was working a couple of months ago and now not anymore...

any workarounds for this?

Hi @ril3ydx are you on the latest Beta: Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.1.0 20251101.m.3279 b1a632e arm64 (beta, PublicBeta) ?

Could you share your steps on the action, did you create it yourself, are you using a default one and are you in the Actions or Classic Actions panel setup?

Thanks,

Yes: Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.1.0 20251101.m.3279 b1a632e arm64 (beta, PublicBeta)

The same happens on the official release too...

Yes, I created the action, it just opens the image and create a bunch of masks on the channels, one for dress, for lower clothes, upper clothes, shoes, etc... After that, it saves and closes the image.

It was working normally, I started automating that as soon as this tool was implemented.

It happens when I open an image manually and run that action, and it also happens when I run a droplet of that action.

Note: All of my actions run normally, and I have a lot.

This only happens whenn using the new Select Person tool. The regular "Select subject" still works, even if using the Cloud processing.

I can confirm this problem. Photoshop 27.0.0 official release. Windows 11 latest.

Created an action to select eyebrows on a model (who was correctly identified as having eyebrows). No other steps. Ran the action on the same image (without even closing Photoshop) and the action hangs.

Yup... looks like the Beta bug made it to production... same issue in the new full version of Photoshop now. Can't run Actions with Select People as a step.....
