Participant ,

I downlaoded the latest PS Beta earlier (26.7 released today) and the Curves Panel which was of a sensible size is now tiny and I can find no way to increase its size?

Trevor,

This is starting to get confusing. I have no problem or issue with using the Curves panel and it does exactly as it should, the issue I have is the small size of the curve being displayed. Prior to the last update, the Curve panel pretty much filled the currently blank area above and whilst its useable at approx 50% the previous size, its a lot more awkward as you just dont have the space in this smaller area!

Sound like your Adjustments Panelk has reverted to Classic view.

You can change it back to Modern View  via the three bars menu top right corner.

This issue only exists in PS Beta, the current version of PS (26.6) shows the larger curve panel so I'm starting to think this is a bug in the latest release of PS Beta which came out yesterday (28 April)? Anyone from Adobe care to comment further please?

For info, I have uninstalled and reinstalled PS Beta already and it made no difference.

There were recurring issues with panels last year that were intermittant over several updates.  Issue included having no tool icons in the toolbar, no icons in the Adjustments panel, Adjustment panel icons not working, but we could still create an adjustment layer via the three bars menu.  I wonder if you are seeing a variation of that?

Restarting Photoshop sometimes fixed it, as did resetting Preferences.   I had the missing Adjustments icons on and off for a while, and resetting Preferences sometimes worked, but not always.  I find I have to reset Preferences a lot more with the beta version.  Thankfully custom workspaces are not effected, and with all the practice we are forced into, it doesn't take too terribly long to put things back to how you like them.

I'm using Windows 11.

So, sorry not to be more help, but if the panel is already set to Modern Vew then I suspect there is no definitive fix.   I would definitely try resetting Preferences.

Thanks for your reply firstly. I've just reset preferences and the problem is still here! I'm thinking its a bug in the last release of PS Beta, would someone from Adobe care to comment please?

Just one thing, how did you reset Preferences?  Did you do it from Preferences, or manually deleted the settings file?  If you did not use the Manual method, then give that a go.

https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

I have just realised that I assumed you meant the Adjustments Panel, but you have said Curves panel at least twice, so can you confirm please?  Preferably with a screen shot.  Thanks.

I reset prefences in PS previously, I've now reset 'manually' and still have the same issue! It is the Curves Adjustment Panel I'm referring to and I've attached a screenshot of the problem!

Thanks

I'm sorry John. I completely misread your post, and parsed Curves as Adjustments, possibly driven by knowing about the previous issues.

OK, so you are showing us the Curves Properties panel with Preserve Blacks preset , and the little hand icon selected.

Are you saying that moving the cursor across the image shows no point on the curve and varying values in the Input and Output fields?

Does nothing happen if you Ctrl click somewhere on the image (locking a point on the curve)?

Perhaps if you explain in detail what you are seeing (or not seeing)?

Right now your screen shot is what we'd expect to see.  Input and Output will show no values unless you move the cursor inside the curve panel, or Ctrl click the Image. Or if you activate the the little hand icon, move the cursor around the image.

Are you unable to add pointsa to the curve at all?

As for the size of the panel, it does change with the size of the Properties panel.  What are your UI size settings in Preferences?

Thanks Trevor, I'll check the settings in the presentation panel later, that might be where the issue lies looking at those settings as I think my font size is medium?

Entirely my fault, so my apologies again.  I have a terrible habbit of parsing these posts too  quickly and making wrong assumptions. I was driven to give myself lines for doing this some time ago!

image.png

I did finaly grasp what you have written very clearly 'several days ago', and on the plus side, I am embarrassed enought to try very hard to get to the bottom of your issue, and I did finally manage to shrink the Curves Properties panel!!!  🙂

I was screen shotting each UI setting, as you can see.  So is your curves panel as tiny as the bottom below?

image.png

Would you be able to see what you were doing with this one?  I overlaid the toolbar for scale reference.

image.png

I was initially unable to scale the panel until I turned off Scale UI to Font and restarting.

image.png

But I now seem to be able to do it regardless of those settings, and I am not 100% sure that my methodology has been repeated exactly each try.  If I resize from the side, I can only shrink the panel by about 10%, bu if I resize from the bottom or lower right corner, I then have full control from minute to full page.  So, try resizing the Properties panel this way, and if it is not working, try changing the UI size settings and restarting.  I suspect they are not related, and that I was not repeating my steps exactly same each try.   I'm sorry again for making this so long winded — but I am nearly 200 years old ;-).

Trevor,

Your efforts above have finally sorted this issue for me, thank you!

Altering the interface panel to 200%/ large/ Scale to UI Font increased the size of the curves panel significantly. I then found dragging down on the lower boundary of the panel increased width further again and I now have a full width curve panel again, happy days as they say.

Quite what caused this issue will remain a mystery, the important thing is its been sorted and you dont need to apologise for a long winded reply on what is a complex issue which taxed 2 people in a similar age group for a few days!!

Thanks again.

John

We say that there's nothing we like more than a question we can't answer, because it means we stand to learn a new thing.  For me that's apparently as much a case of slowing down and reading the question properly, as it is about Photoshop's quirks and features.   ðŸ˜ž

EDIT.
It worked perfectly for 10 min
then the curves "diagram" shrunk

I enlarged it as described above.
Next new curves layer, and the curves "diagram" dissappeared all together :_/

I've found that every time I open PS, I have to drag the bottom of the panel down ever further to keep the Curves Panel at full width. Trevor and I thought this had been resolved a couple of days ago but it isn't! I've now started a new thread linked to this as a bug rather than a discussion to try and darw more attention to it.....

I started this post under discussions; https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-beta-discussions/he-curves-panel-is-tiny-in-the-latest-ps-b... Despite significant input from both Trevor and myself it remains an issue. Everytime PS Beta gets opened I have to drag the ower edge of the cureves panel ever lower to retain its full width.

I've reposted this as a bug as in an effort to draw more attention to it and hopefully achieve a resolution?

@johnt41947401 what you are seeing is an update that is showing in Ps beta that has not made its way to the release version yet.  What you see in Ps beta is workinig as designed and will be in the GA release soon. This is not a bug.

Thanks,

Cory,

Thanks for the prompt response and things appear to have stabilised as far as width of the Curves panel is concerned for me. What is the thinking behind this change please?

Thanks

John

Are you sure, Cory? Of course, if anyone would know it's you, but I find it very odd that an un-responsive UI design could be considered an improvement. I guess we must be speaking about different things, maybe? Just to be clear, the problem is that Curves (and maybe other panels) are doing weird things when changing panel size. Most of the time it's still usable, but harder than necessary to work with because the UI is just using a fraction of the available space.

Wait! As I was typing this, a new PS beta update showed up (m3064). After updating, the problem appears to be gone (the Curves panel is again adapting to the available space). I hope it stays like this and other people in this thread have seen the issue fixed for them too. 🤞

Still, I would like to know what is the official definition of this update to the panels, because I haven't noticed any difference if compared to PS 2025 (other than this weird issue which appears to be fixed). I know this "Spectrum" thing is being deployed, but I think it is not affecting Curves (at least so far), is it?

Thanks.

I'd agree that the problem appears to have gone with the very latest PS Beta update and like you I'm struggling to understand the rationale behind this change.
