Help - camera raw filter suddenly stopped working

I was using PS (beta) yesterday. used the camera raw filter as normal. later that same day I went to use it and got the alert "Camera raw requires graphics processor accelerator". Nothing had changed. I updadted PS. No change. I checked the prefereneces (previoulsy set to use grapghics processor). I unchecked it. but made no difference. I then tried earlier versions of PS 23, 24. It's the same. The OS hadn't been updated. so it was updated (now ventura 13.6.1 on intel 2017 21" iMac). I'm unaware anything changed between it running fine earlier in the day and not later - i thought automatic updates were off. Has anyone heard of this or got any fixes? Thanks.
