Remove Tool in Beta for Photoshop Desktop

Hello Beta Team,
The Remove tool replaces areas of your image with realistic and relevant content. Use this tool to remove any distracting regions or elements, no matter how small or large.

Simply brush this artificial-Intelligence-powered tool over objects and people to make them disappear… as if they were never there.

Complicated backgrounds and structures, such as fences or edges are seamlessly completed.

What we want for you:
This should seem like the magic you expect out of Photoshop!

For our experienced users and those with a discerning eye, our goal is to reduce or eliminate the clean-up after the fill. You should be spending less time repeating a fill for better results. You should also not need to clean-up by switching to another tool, such as the Clone Stamp.

What we want from you:

If you have multiple systems, please try this tool on all of them. Hardware will make a difference.

How to use the Remove Tool in Photoshop Desktop Beta

Select the Remove tool from the toolbox.
Find it in the Healing brush tool group. Expand the group by clicking on the Spot Healing Brush tool, Patch tool, or Red Eye tool to show the Remove Tool.

Note: You may see a “Installing required components…” dialog the first time you use the tool after installation. Don’t worry, that’s normal.
Choose a brush size in the options bar.
• Choose a brush size that lets you brush over the entire object – with a little extra for good measure – so you don’t have to do a lot of brushing!
• Brush hardness and brush opacity settings are not used by this tool
(Optional) If you want to make multiple brush strokes to cover the large or complex object, turn off Remove after each stroke in the options bar.
- Remove after each stroke = ON will apply the fill as soon as you complete a single stroke with the tool.
- Remove after each stroke = OFF will apply the fill after clicking the apply button; allowing for multiple strokes of the brush on the object before applying the fill.
(Optional) Turn on Sample All Layers in the options bar to sample data from all visible layers.
Note: The new pixels will be created on the current, selected layer.
Hint: Create & select a new layer, then turn on Sample All Layers for a non-destructive workflow.
Click and drag over area you want to remove.
• Be sure to cover the entire area. Results are better if a bit of the background behind the object or person is also covered.

If Remove after each stroke = ON is selected, the new pixels will be appear after completing the stroke. Skip the next step. You’re done!

If Remove after each stroke = OFF, continue to stroke of the area(s) to be removed, then click Apply in the Options bar or Enter/Return on the keyboard.
• Use Reset all Brush Strokes to clear all the strokes and start over.

I have just installed Photoshop 24.4, the official release (not Beta). I do not see the removal tool. I have checked the tool editor and could not find the remove tool. The remove tool was in the Beta version 24.4. Why the remove tool is not in the official release 24.4 ?

The Remove tool is not in the general, non-Beta release because it is still only in the Beta test phase. It is only available in the Beta release.

Hello Lucienr123,

Thank you for the report. Did you mean it worked in version 24.5 initially, but became unstable after a while? We're investigating this issue, but if you are still stuck, could you restart Photoshop and let us know if it works? Meanwhile, it would be very helpful if you could send us your system info and provide the model name of your PC or any additional info (e.g. laptop or desktop).

It never worked in version 24.5. ! However, it worked maybe for an hour in version 24.4. It started to fail when I brushed the object to remove then did nothing when I pressed the check mark to execute the removal. After a while, I started getting an error saying that it cannot use the tool. I have restarted Photoshop many times and I am still getting the same error. I also reset all the preferences on quit and I am having the same problem. I have also restarted Photoshop without the plugins. I am using a desktop PC. My pc is a ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. MAXIMUS VI HERO Rev 1.xx. The processors are: 3.40 gigahertz Intel Core i7-4770

Remove tool applied to image

Expected result - clean results

Actual result - Inverted & pixelated mess

Only change from the day before and now was a system upgrade from MacOS Monteray to Ventura. Seems to have broken the tool.

Hello! When I try to use the remove tool on my Mac OS Ventura, this shows up:

Actually, eventually it seems to work allright. But what are the hardware requirements, indeed?

Also, when after using the remove tool I correct something with spot healing brush, and then return to the remove tool on the same picture, it stops doing its job, making strange colorful stains instead

The graphic card driver seems to be outdated. Can you install the latest driver and try Remove Tool again? Let us know if you still have a problem.

Can you try the following steps to see if it fixes the program error?
1. Go to Preferences > Image Processing
2. Select “More Stable” for the Remove Tool Processing.
3. Relaunch Photoshop for the change to take effect.

4. Try Remove Tool again and let us know if this fixes the Program Errors for you
