Remove Tool in Beta for Photoshop Desktop

Hello Beta Team,
The Remove tool replaces areas of your image with realistic and relevant content.  Use this tool to remove any distracting regions or elements, no matter how small or large.

Simply brush this artificial-Intelligence-powered tool over objects and people to make them disappear… as if they were never there. 

Complicated backgrounds and structures, such as fences or edges are seamlessly completed.

What we want for you:
This should seem like the magic you expect out of Photoshop!

For our experienced users and those with a discerning eye, our goal is to reduce or eliminate the clean-up after the fill. You should be spending less time repeating a fill for better results. You should also not need to clean-up by switching to another tool, such as the Clone Stamp.

What we want from you:

If you have multiple systems, please try this tool on all of them. Hardware will make a difference.

How to use the Remove Tool in Photoshop Desktop Beta

1. Select the Remove tool from the toolbox.
   Find it in the Healing brush tool group. Expand the group by clicking on the Spot Healing Brush tool, Patch tool, or Red Eye tool to show the Remove Tool.
   
   Note: You may see a “Installing required components…” dialog the first time you use the tool after installation. Don’t worry, that’s normal.
   
   
2. Choose a brush size in the options bar.
   • Choose a brush size that lets you brush over the entire object – with a little extra for good measure – so you don’t have to do a lot of brushing!
   • Brush hardness and brush opacity settings are not used by this tool
            
3. (Optional) If you want to make multiple brush strokes to cover the large or complex object, turn off Remove after each stroke in the options bar.
   • Remove after each stroke = ON  will apply the fill as soon as you complete a single stroke with the tool.
   • Remove after each stroke = OFF will apply the fill after clicking the apply button; allowing for multiple strokes of the brush on the object before applying the fill.  
        
4. (Optional) Turn on Sample All Layers in the options bar to sample data from all visible layers.
   Note: The new pixels will be created on the current, selected layer.
   Hint: Create & select a new layer, then turn on Sample All Layers for a non-destructive workflow.
   
   
5. Click and drag over area you want to remove.
   • Be sure to cover the entire area. Results are better if a bit of the background behind the object or person is also covered.
   
   If Remove after each stroke = ON is selected, the new pixels will be appear after completing the stroke. Skip the next step. You’re done!

6. If Remove after each stroke = OFF, continue to stroke of the area(s) to be removed, then click Apply in the Options bar or  Enter/Return on the keyboard.
   • Use Reset all Brush Strokes to clear all the strokes and start over.

So far with testing it seems to be a great tool for getting "almost there" to speed up a workflow.

One consistent irritating im fiding though is a little unexected.  In places where there are things like fences, posts, wires or pretty obvious lines, when an object in front of those is removed the replaced area doesnt seem to line up exactly.  Panels and fences are offset by a few pixels - enough to need further fixing.

Id have thought this type of background would actually be easier to line up perfectly than something else but it seems not.

I do get a random error about GPU hardware, not sure why as its supported but the function works regardless and speed is fine.

I like it.  It took a couple of pratice swipes to understand how best it works, but I think I have it now.  I was taking away a branch and it left a brown smudge, but I was able to get rid of it after a second swipe of the whole thing instead of little swipes of the smudge.

I have an older GPU. I do have the Pre-2016 Tech Preview box selected.

I mention this because sometimes Ps disables my GPU when using this Remove Tool feature.

Can you post System Info from Help > System Info?
Do you use AMD machine?

Can you try the following steps to see if it fixes the program error?
1. Go to Preferences > Image Processing
2. Select “More Stable” for the Remove Tool Processing.
3. Relaunch Photoshop for the change to take effect.

4. Try Remove Tool again and let us know if this fixes the Program Errors for you

I selected the More Stable Option - and WoW! This feature is Amazing. My GPU is so pitiful that I deselected the 'Remove After Each Stroke' tick box. Thanks for giving more life to my old GPU lol. Before and After below.

Why is an 8 Core processor required to use the Remove Tool? My processor is 4 Core. Do I have to buy a new computer to use this feature?

Sounds like recommended specs.
Mine is a 2014 4 core i5 and it works for me and my weak gpu, and 16gb ram.

Go to preferences - Image processing - change Remove Tool to Stable if it doesn't work.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused due to Program Error. Please try the below mentioned steps and share the details which can help our engineers to resolve the issue quickly.

1. Follow the instructions to install the Program Error Diagnostic Plugin
2. Open Photoshop and enable the Photoshop User Diagnostics option provided in the Plugins menu
3. Reproduce the Program Error, then click OK to dismiss the Program Error dialog (This then copies the detailed error text to your clipboard)
4. Click the blue Reply button on this post and paste the Program Error clipboard contents into this community thread

Understood, my mistake. Even so @CoryShubert  just an FYI for 24.6 - the issue remains where the new remove tool refuses to work on MacOS Ventura and an M1 Processor.

I have tried over and over to find the Remove Tool, it is mentioned in a workshop I did and how to access it, then I have contacted your support team and they say I need to use PS Beta, I am in there and still no Remove Tool under the Spot Healing brush?  Anyone else have this problem and know how to find it??

So I am going down that path now to see what happens.

I can access the remove tool under Ps beta, but a messsage pops up saying "Can only use this tool with Mac OS 13 and higher"

I am running Big Sur. Every else works flawlessly under 'regular' Ps and the beta, EXCDPT the remove tool.

I am using Mac mini with the m1 chip and Ventura is the os.
The remove tool problem is not with Microsoft. I do not use Microsoft only
use apple Mac with the M1 chip. Kindly reply with instructions for
repairing the tool use in the mac mini. Thank you.
