Brushing Layer Masks is laggy in 24.4.1

Hello!

Since updating to PS 24.4.1 I've been having serious lag issues when brushing a layer mask. This is something that I do constantly, and have never had lagging like this before.

Now when I brush I get the spinning beach ball for a few seconds before I see results. If I quickly brush a bunch of areas it can lag for at least 10-15 seconds.

I've attached my iMac specs and PS preferences.

Please let me know if anyone has found a solution for this. Thanks!

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

I restored the preferences manually and restarted and it's still laggy when brushing.

Verify if GPU is causing Photoshop issues

Unsure if your graphics processor or driver is the cause of the issue you're facing with Photoshop? Disabling the GPU acceleration will help you narrow down the cause of the issue.

To do so, navigate to Edit > Preferences > Performance (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > Performance (macOS) and uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Then, restart Photoshop. To learn more about photoshop preferences, see Adjust preferences in Photoshop.

If the problem persists, continue troubleshooting by performing the GPU and graphics driver troubleshooting steps as outlined below.

Thanks again for your reply.

I treid everything you cuggested and it didn't fix the issue. I want to point out that the issue only started after updating to 24.4.1 and it's only the brush tool that is lagging.

I also just saw there was a new update so I updated to 24.5 and it actually made the problem worse. It takes about a minute to open the app and when I use the brush I get the spinning ball even longer than before. I think I'm just going to revert to an older version unfortunately.

Thanks for the update @Dustin R Photo curious if you are using a tablet or mouse or...? Have you tried rollingback to the version before 24.4.1 to see if infact it returns to a working state as you remember?

I use both a tablet/pen and mouse and they're both behaving the same way.
I just went back to v 24.2.0 and it's being super slow. I'm really not sure what could have happened because it wasn't like this before I updated a few weeks ago. Must be something with my hardware?
