Crop tool folly

Explorer ,
Oct 19, 2025 Oct 19, 2025

I have this problem with the instability of the crop tool, that is, when I set W and H Resolution dimensions the crop tool menu changes from my preset to Selection or Ratio, or W/H Resolution with no dimensions. When I then re enter the dimensions no crop occurs. The reset tool option does nothing to change this, and the work around I found - closing then reopening the image, then attempting to crop again - is tedious.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

The first thing to try is to reset the Crop tool. Right click the tool in the options bar (not the toolbar) and select Reset tool.

If that doesn't work, show screenshots of when you enter the numbers and when it reverts to a different setting so we can better assist.

Please reread the post. As mentioned the reset tool option does nothing to change this. I have to close the image, then reopen it to have it crop correctly, after reentering the dimensions. Sometimes that works, yet sometimes I have to shut down then restart photoshop. I can send you screenshots but how would that help since it will only show exactly what I've already mentioned. A video clip woud make more sense.
