Face detection not working with new update

I updated to the recent version the other day and now face detection in Liquify isn't working. There will be a whole family of faces and it says no family detected. I didn't have this problem before. I tried reverting back to the version before but it still isn't working now.

What is the exact version you updated to? Does it fail with all files, or only specific files?

If you restore your preferences using this manual method does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

I am running into the same problem here, Win11, 23.5.1. 

Other Liquify tools work just as before but no face detection of any kind?

I used this function successfully in the past, on the same set of images, and it was working fine. Could it be because of my INTEL drivers version? I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce 1070 video card with 8GB VRAM. 

I tried trashing my Photoshop Preferences already to no avail. 

Any help is appreciated...

It's likely failing because of some issue with the GPU.

Is your driver up to date by downloading the latest driver directly from NVIDIA?

Do you get any errors when you go to Help > GPU Compatibility?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

It may have something to do with my INTEL video drivers? I remember a while ago getting constantly nagged about my "video driver" version not being up to date every time I launched Illustrator? But not any more, it seems. I remember downloading the INTEL video drivers update program and trying to run the Updater to no avail? It kept encountering some error and closed.

It could be. Many older Intel drivers are no longer compatible with Photoshop.

I upgraded to the latest GeForce driver it still does not work.

Three things.

1. There are two cards in your system. Make sure the high performance card is selected in the NVIDIA driver. Setp 5 here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html#gpu-troubleshooting-steps

2. Try updating to Photoshop 2023 (v24.x) which came out today.

3. If updating to 24.x by itself doesn't help, with version 24.x launched, go to Preferences > Technology Previews... and enable "Older GPU mode (pre 2016). Restart Photoshop. Does the problem persist?

It wouldn't work on close up of faces or family of faces. I update my GPU to the lastest one. It says it is compatiable. I had it checked of as the one to use as well. I even had adobe support go through my computer and do it all again too. Still doesn't work. I had to revert back to and older version to get it to work again. I updated to the one released this week and still won't work.

Updating to 24.0.0 alone did not solve the problem.

But I ran for the first ime into this message, when I tried to access the Liquidity tools :

At first, I checked my "Disks" preference and only the C:\ was checked. So I checked a few more and, the second time around, I was able to make my way into the Liquidity tools. But the face detection problem remained unsolved?

So I enabled the "Older GPU mode (pre 2016)" in the Technology Preview and that SOLVED THE PROBLEM! Wow!

So the liquify face detection worked after I checked off "use open CL" in the latest version of PS, but smart portrait (in neural filter) still crashes when I try to adjust anything on an image. I tried clicking to use older GPU like you suggested, but when I did that smart portrait still doesn't work and then the liquify tool wasn't working either. So I unchecked it to at least still have the liquify tool working.

@Nicole265241213snk You may have some non-standard settings/preferences that are gumming up our troubleshooting.

First, let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Second, enable "Older GPU mode (pre 2016)" - That's the only thing we're changing.

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

I did everything you said. I first reset the prefences, and the smart portrait was working, but not the liquify face detection. So I checked off to use the older GPU and liquify face detection seems to be working now. Fingers crossed it contines to work. Thanks for your help. I hope this problem gets resolved though, as someone who is not tech savvy, I would have had no idea to check/do those things on my own. I'm sure others are in the same boat.

AAANNNND its not working again. It worked all day yesterday when  did what you said, but go to start editing today and its not detecting faces again in luquify. The "use older gpu" is still checked off and i didn't change anything else after I reset my preferences. @J453
