Mac OS, PS and P800 Problems Solved

The problems I’ve posted here since upgrading from Catalina and PS 22.5 to Ventura and PS 24.x included wonky Photoshop Manages Colors Print windows operation and info. Plus, when I hit ‘Print’ Photoshop sent data to the printer but simply spit out blank paper. After thoroughly uninstalling the Epson driver and PS and manually deleting the remaining folders and files and reinstalling the printer driver and PS 24.x over and again, still no luck. I got the same bad behavior.

Turns out the problem was the Canson paper’s custom .icc that I created and had been happily using in Catalina with PS 22.5. It not only doesn’t work in the upgraded OS and PS versions, it also causes the above-stated tear-ones-hair-out problems. What’s truly maddening: I could select that .icc profile in the Printer Profile window—it wasn’t greyed out and there was no other indication it was causing problems. And, though I’ve researched reasons for these kinds of problems, I haven’t read anything about their potentially being caused by a useable custom .icc profile from a previous OS and PS.

Happily, what solved all the above-stated problems was downloading and using Canson’s .icc profile. Now everything appears to be working well.

Are you sure? This is the first time I have heard of an ICC profile causing such problems. I would like to be educated about how an ICC profile could do all this harm. I have not heard that ICC profiles can be sensitive to the version of Photoshop or MacOS. Is it possible that coincidentally something else you did, perhaps unknowingly, solved it?

I too was skeptical when months ago a friend with the same iMac, OS, P800, and custom .icc profile as me (but for a different FA paper) upgraded everything and encountered the same print window and printer problems—and told me it was the custom icc profile. It made no sense so I ignored his experience until I went through all the steps I've listed above and finally decided to give this simple procedure a try. All I can tell you is that for both of us, it worked.
