P: Can't cmd+tab to web browser (Chrome ver: 16.0.912.75) from CS6 (OSX/10.6.8)

When cmd+tabbing between Photoshop CS6 and Google Chrome, Photoshop document windows remain visual on top (but inactive). The web browser window is called up over other applications, but remains behind Photoshop. The problem seems to only happen when switching to Chrome.

I've reported this to Google Chrome and it's looks like they've taken notice.

Adam@mmg Stevenson Hmm, there seems to be no "report troll" facility on here. Shame.

+1 – Cmd + Tab to Chrome or click its icon in the dock, Chrome window flashes visible for a second then is hidden.

Since it only seems to affect Chrome it may indeed be a Chrome bug, although I have been able to work out a Photoshop setting that stops it from happening.

It only happens for me when Photoshop is in "Standard Screen Mode" – if it's in "Full screen with menu bar" or "Full screen" then Cmd + Tabbing works reliably just like normal.

I'm okay to work in full screen with menu bar most of the time to work around this, although doesn't help much if you're working on things with lots of open documents.

Same issue here with macbook pro, el capitan 10.11.2, Chrome Version 48.0.2564.109 (64-bit), PS Version 2015.

BUT: It happens to me with Powerpoint Mac 2011 as well. As soon as I want to switch to PPT it focusses Powerpoint but still shows Photoshop File and Window.

Happens after working a while on Photoshop only. Not at first start. That's probably the reason, why many can't reproduce it.

Found another workaround. After having pressed CMD Tab and switched to Chrome (but still having photoshop on your screen) you just might add CMD < on german Keyboard, CMD ~ on english. Works for me.

I had the same issue and was driving me crazy. But discovered it only happens on Standard Screen Mode. If I change it to Full screen mode it's back to normal.

Yep, that works!

In Photoshop: View menu > Screen Mode > either Full Screen mode.

So maybe this and the fact that it happens also with powerpoint 2011, could point the source of the bug in direction of photoshop as well?

It's also happened with Keynote. Not consistently though.

My guess. Photoshop hates presentation programs (as it should).

OSX 10.11

So I switched to OSX 10.10.5, problem disappeared.

Same issue here. This is very irritating and disrupts my workflow.

Photoshop 2015.1.2
Chrome 48.0.2564
OSX 10.11.3

Details: When I command-tab from Photoshop to Chrome, the Chrome window is visible for an instant and then the Photoshop document window is forced into the foreground on top of Chrome. Looks like a Photoshop bug to me although it doesn't happen between Photoshop and other apps or between Chrome and other apps.

Hey Chris, what about the fact, that the bug occours also with office 2011 and Photoshop?
And it doesnt appear with PS in fullscreen Mode and Chrome.
Maybe it is a problem with Apple Window Management and Photoshop?

At least it is not an isolated Google Chrome Problem anymore.

As the original poster of this issue, I thought I'd jump in again. I've been noticing the issue between photoshop and finder now. Across multiple machines in our studio. I'm afraid I can't dedicate time to tracking versions numbers for all the machines, but I wanted to contribute at least another perspective about perhaps a wider issue. I understand the difficulty in determining a root cause of a non-critical bug like this, and the tendency to finger point to the "other guy". But as I see it, this issue seems to have two consistent variables- photoshop and mac os.

Its so frustrating, it seems no one cares about this bug, you from adobe point to google, google didnt even react once. We as paying costumers just have to deal with this?

Please Chris, give us a sign, that you care about our complaints.

We care, but we cannot do much about bugs in Google's browser code.
We've researched this, and found that Photoshop was not doing anything that could cause it, but Chrome was.
If Chrome is causing you problems while using other applications - please let the Chrome team know how it affects you.

No disrespect, but this isn't a solution. You are talking a free program vs. a service that is paid for. As subscribers, we expect a certain level of compatibility with our workflows.

While Adobe can't physically fix the bug, I think it would be in Adobe's best interest to represent their customers and help resolve this issue. Especially since the Adobe name carries some clout over a bug report by a random user.

Dear Chris, whats your opinion to the fact, that the bug also happens with Office 2011? And it doesnt happen with PS in fullscreen Mode?

Dont you see a slightly chance, that this is a problem with Photoshop too?

This bug is only affecting the workflow with Adobe Photoshop. Chrome 48 oder Office 2011 never ever show this behaviour with other apps!

Thanks Chris for the reply. I believe, it is frustrating for all sides. Still I need to agree with Malte. The problem occurs while wanting to switch from Photoshop to Office. No Chrome whatsoever involved.

Maybe Chrome, just by being run in the background, causes this. Is it that, what you wanted to imply?

Thx, Silke.
