P: Can't save changes to the Adobe Photoshop document "" before quitting

I have recently installed Photoshop CC 2017.1 on a brand new computer.
Everything seems to be working fine until I try to close Photoshop at the end of a session.
I get the message "save changes to the Adobe Photoshop document "" before quitting"
I tried to save the non existant document and now get a message telling me that the document is being saved in the background, Photoshop will quit after saving has completed.
This seems to take forever to complete.
I tried creating a new file 100px X100px and tried to save it and now see the
Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 has stopped working message.
Upon restarting Photoshop it seems to work as expected and closed down properly.
This is the third time today I have had this problem so it seems like time to see if anyone can offer some help

Here is list of possible problems with downgrade: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/whats-new.html#main-pars_header_1366862642 (April 2017)

I am 90 % sure that this problem is related to this version. This topic was created few days after new version.

OK Thanks Jaroslav. It's an impressive list!!! May I ask if you have downgraded yourself? Have you experienced this problem and solved it?

I expected some issues so I didn't upgrade. And as you can see from list. Last version doesn't solve a lot bugs and it is without features. This is why I am watching feedback forum. I want to know if is save to upgrade 😄

I've gone back to version 18.0.

18.0.1 has more than the save dialog bug. It's slower to open and close and I had errors when resizing files.

We're working on a fix for this issue. The reproducible case we have is after printing a document. One of the questions we have is if anyone on this thread is seeing this issue without a using the print command in their workflow.

It happens whether I print or not. Usually after I've been working on a few designs.

It is happening to me without printing. It is at it's worst when I have had several documents open during a session...like processing a number of holiday pictures...and I come to shut Photoshop down. I'm getting the message shown by Daryl above time after time after time as I try to close the program. Maybe one for each document I've had open during the session? Not sure about that.

No, it's an endless loop. No matter how many documents you opened, it will not allow you to quit, close or save the document called " ". I have to Task Manager and force quit every time I use Photoshop.

So far, it's only happened to me after printing. I don't get an endless loop of the "Save changes to the Adobe Photoshop document "" before quitting?" dialog box, however. On my system, the query usually appears two or three times. When I have answered "No" to each dialog box, Photoshop has shut down successfully.

In case it is relevant, I usually have about 3 files open at a time, occasionally up to about six.

Good point. Maybe it only appears to me to be an endless loop because I tend to open and print many hundreds of images before I quit and I have never clicked "No" hundreds of times.

Just tried it again and I had to click "No" 117 times before it finally quit. That's probably about how many documents I had opened, printed and closed in that session. Hope that is a good clue for the bug chasers...

We have a fix for this case where you've printed a document. Should go out in an update in the near future.

Do you have exact, reproducible steps that exhibit the problem without using the Print command? That would be most helpful.

Thanks Jeff,
it's nice to know you and your colleagues are listening.
An interesting point I have just noticed.
I had to click four times for one document I had printed on four pages.
This might not be relevant but I thought I'd let you know anyway.

While all my work has been saved and the editor shows an  empty black space, PS still wants me to safe a file. Not only once but several. I d ouse 'the 'NO' button, but that doesn't help. I have to do this several times before PS closes. This happens since the latest update.

Great that a fix is available today, 2017-5-2 too bad Adobe couldn't/didn't send out a warning message before fix was ready. I spent  hours late last night dealing with "saving in background" but not able to save, (Googled the problem but apparently did not spend enough time sifting through results as i did not find this post until today.)  After I forced quit PS CC via Win 10 Task Manager, the file had been saved...This after I printed.

I had delayed installing the April update when it was released, not trusting it would be bug free. Appears that I didn't delay installing that April update long enough. Perhaps quality control/testing needs to be given more resources

The fix works. Thank you! Could one of you Adobe developers please do me a favor and tell John Worthington and Tim Wright that Dave Alexander blames both of them. 🙂 They will know what I'm talking about. Thanks!

Will do. Tim is in the office next to mine and Dave is across the hall. Unfortunately, it was was a different feature team, so I can't truly blame them!

When exiting and closing Adobe Photoshop I get a bunch of dialogue boxes pop up asking me if I want to save "" << These inverted commas are actually what shows, there is no project open or needing to be saved but it comes with the same dialogue boxes each time I close once a project is opened.
