P: Clicking on a smart object no longer offers to rasterize the layer (adding extra steps)

In photoshop cc 2019 and older having a smart object layer selected in the layers panel and clicking on the document area with a tool like the Brush Tool would present a dialog saying the smart object needs to be rasterized and offering an Ok button to do so.

In photoshop 2020 the same just presents a dialog saying the smart object is not directly editable and gives no explanation as to why or how to proceed.

Is that an on purpose change in photoshop 2020?

In one case, if a user wants to paint on the Smart Object of a Frame Layer in 2020 there is no easy way to rasterize said layer like was possible in photoshop cc 2019.

It's pretty disruptive to my workflow, I'd love to have the old functionality back - or even just the option to turn this on or off in the settings, as was done with the transformation tool and shift!

I just wanted to add my support to this topic. This particular problem irritates me as well. I hope it gets solved soon.

Why is right clicking on the layer and clicking rasterize layer hard to do? It seems to be easy to me....RackMultipart2019120539532f8xf-7d9a4c7d-87f9-458d-87c2-1525235eef79-32447599.jpg

It's definitely not hard, but when you have to do it roughly 50 times a day and there used to be a better solution? Then yeah, having the old option back would be great.

Photoshop is seriously one of the most inelegant tools imaginable. For those of us who want to quickly and easily create graphics for the Web, Fireworks was ideal. It was smart, fast, intuitive and no BS. It has all the functions needed for Web imagery with NONE of the complications. Adobe, please bring back Fireworks. It was simply amazing.
