Running latest version of Photoshop CC 2017, I get major bad lag with zooming and with brushes when a layer that has been converted to a smart object is visible. If I turn off the layers, the brush is buttery smooth again. Efficiency indicator will drop during this lagg.
File size is 671mb, 22 layers, 18 converted to smart objects with filters, 3627 x 5441, 240 resolution. The lag is still present with a few of the smart layers turned on, bad enough to the point where the mouse will lag so that I can't do anything until it passes after around 10 seconds.
Attempted to export to web as a JPEG, left it for 30 mins and wasn't completed yet.
I have the same issue and creating the Smart Objects also takes much longer that it used to. This is after the latest update. I spent time online with an Adobe Support person... He told me Photoshop and Lightroom works better with 4 - 8GB of RAM... I have 48GB. So he said they know it is an issue and they are working on it. They have basically made Photoshop 32-bit again. The problems are more evident when working with large files (PSB)
Photoshop is a 64-bit application, unless you've installed the 32-bit version (windows). It looks like you were given bad information. More RAM is better.
Yes - well the information came directly from Adobe support. I know more RAM is better, especially on 64-bit, and that is why I was shocked to hear that the support tech said it currently works better with 8GB or less RAM. My thoughts were that after the latest updates, some parts of Photoshop and Lightroom might have gone back to 32-bit.
Different issue than thread it was originally posted to. The original thread is talking about interactive lags in documents that contain smart objects. Not actually creating a smart object
