I think you guys are a bunch of liars. The issue is the same almost across the world with PS CC 2022 crashing when you try to use the 'selection tool'. What else information dontiu guys need? There has been no fix, no help, no guidance from Adobe csr's. You guys are just blowing hot air up everyone's bums.
Same for me still - sadly 23.4.1 still has not resolved my previously reported issue of my computer doing a full crash/reboot a few seconds after I have selected the object selection tool. As I have said before this has happened with every 23.x.x version only when I select the object selection tool. My W11 computer is fully stable with every other piece of software including LrC and all the Topaz suite. I run the latest NVidia Studio Drivers on a NVidia 1080 Ti card. There are no crash reports being submitted as the full computer crash/reboot does not give a chance to record any reports. I will have to continue to use PS 22.5.8 whicvh is fully stable until you guys can work out the software bug causing this behaviour. I know I am not alone as there are numerous other reports of my behaviour occurring with others who are all probably like me and sitting on v22 and waiting. I believe it to be some sort of incompatibility between the NVidia drivers and code involved in the object selection routine. I still find it curious that there is no such issue when selecting objects in the latest LR versions. I have tried deselecting the Use GPU processor also with no change.
Still happening as of June 30 2022. Confirming it's the issue as described:
If it's the first time opening Photoshop, typically after waking the computer from standby, Magic Wand works fine, but the second I cycle to Object Select (and sometimes cycle through to Quick Select) PS crashes. This situation results a crash nearly 100% of the time.
I haven't been using PS for months, I open up latest version, go to object selection tool and boom. PC crashes to reboot. Why Adobe software has so many bugs 😞
I will have something selected, then I open up the Select and Mask menu to refine the selection and photoshop will crash. But it will only do it the first time after I turn on my PC for the day. After that first crash its fine until the next day when I boot up...
I have no plugins. I've deleted the font cache folder. Its still doing it.
Its hard to test fixes because after the first crash it doesnt do it again until after I restart my entire PC. So ive just been dealing with it.
A system hang or freeze requiring a computer restart usually means a low level failure such as a driver (bad video card driver, etc), failing hardware (hard disk, video card, etc.) or damaged OS installation. It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.
Hi, Sorry its not that I need to restart the PC to use the software its that the crash only happens AFTER a PC reboot. After Photoshop crashes that first time I can just run the software again and it works fine all day. Then the next day after I turn my PC on and open photoshop then go to refine a selection with the Select and Mask tool it does the crash, but works completely fine after that all day. rinse and repeat.

When did this first start? Have you tried rolling back to a version of Ps that this didn't happen in? Trying to see when and what might be contributing to this.
Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:
Restore your preferences using this manual method:
Thanks for your response Cory. I did try this - what amistke that was. I couldn't get PS to work for 3 days and still is not the same as it was before.
At oe time the select tool wasworking but often would crash when I truied creating the new layer from it.
When I did the prefrence thing you mention. Then all my settings changed. I copied back the old prefernce that I saved off file and then it would not start without freezing up. Finally I decided to reset to defaults and had to adjust every prefernece. I finally got everything (my workspace) pretty much working like I had.
I I restrat my windows PS works find until it locks up trying to resize a file or if I were try to use some of the tools. Then I get an error my graphice card is out of date.
At this point I do not use PS like I use to with any speed or accuaracy.
Intel tells me my graphics cards are up to date. My PS works when the checkbox says: Use Graphics Adapter otherwise I get a message when opening PS and then need to reboot PC so PS doesn't lock up.
I have same issues - if Cory finds something wrong on yours - hope he posts and I can look for same problem.
If i want to send Cory the smae information: Should Ido this “system info” after I reboot or after it crashes or both? Usually if it crashes, the only way I can reopen is to use Task Manager to stop the PS processes which seem to still be running. Then I might be able to relaunch PS. Hpwever, then I get the error message saying my ‘driver is out of date’.
I attempted the manual restore of the preferences, that didnt work. I also attempted just completely reinstalling the latest version and that didnt work either, I will try rolling back to version 22.0 and see if it does it then. I am not entirely sure when this particular bug started, best guess is probably about 2-3 months. I will let you know the results.
Okay, I rolled back through quite a few V23 versions all which replicated the crash. Then I installed the latest version of V22 (v 22.5.8) and it did not produce the crash. So its definitely an issue with my system and v23.
First, sorry for typos and grammar, I'm not an english speaker and I have no time since I wasted too much on this issue. But I hope it may be helpful to users who are desperate like I was. Its a long read, in the end is a solution which solved a problem (at least for me).
Photoshop was triggering hard reset of my computer when using some of the selection tools - Object Selection, Select and mask, Remove background. This issue started from 2020 PS releases and included all later versions/updates. I am a motion designer who is using mostly Adobe AI and AE so troubleshooting wasnt essential for my work and I have relied on an eventual Adobe engineers solution. Even Adobe doesn't seem to take any responsibility or interest on this issue to this day despite a fact that their Application in a very specific action is triggering hard reset of computer.
On 29 of July i lost 3 day work progress on a project I was working on in Photoshop. Due to an unexpected hard reset (i was resizing the image) i lost all files and all previously backed up versions (save assed) which were in the same folder which i didnt think is possible. The message was “Photoshop could not complete your request because of a program error”. Autosave, temp… nothing
Before that horror event i have already tried to update drivers, remove drivers, reset preferences as suggested and Yesterday i even bought new graphic card because i had and older one (NVIDIA GForce GTX 1060 3gb). As well as the new suitable power supply.
With a new graphic card my components are:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz
RAM/CHIPS 4*16 DDR
Discs: Samsung SSD 970 PRO 512GB 512105932800
TOSHIBA HDWD130 3000590369280
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd., Base Board Z370M DS3H-CF
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
al running on Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
The list of things that i have done to find a cause of the system crash:
Updating Windows, formating computer which included new installation of OS, all applications including Adobe suite, updating drivers.
Enabling/disabling all kinds of options in PS (plug ins, used memory, chache, rendering, file handling). Testing different options in Nvidia control panel, running RAM test etc...
And then (as i mentioned above) I bought a new Graphic card (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060) since Adobe support was suggesting that it is a GPU issue correlated with drivers or insufficient/outdated hardware.
Did not help, crashing again.
In the event viewer crashes were labeled as Kernel Power no.41 critical events.
------
Eliminating possible causes was like this:
Clean installation of graphic card and base drivers for specific model (to rule out clash of multiple CPU usage like ingame overlay and audio components)
Running Photoshop in Windows safe mode (to rule out a GPU driver issue)
Power supply testing - via FurMark app which is pushing all components (CPU and GPU) to work on max capacity
Running Photoshop with integrated CPU graphics (without dedicated GPU)
Processor and cooling issues were ruled out because rebooting was too precisely triggered by specific use of Adobe PS
Running windows with every Ram chip separately
And finally updating the motherboard driver / bios version in a safe mode - which solved the problem.
I had Bios version F10, now updated to F14
Solution which solved a problem: updating Bios version for Gigabyte Technology Base Board Z370M DS3H-CF
no matter how long I have had photoshop open, and no matter how long it's open through any number of computer sleep/wakes...
If it's the first time I utilize Object Select or Quick Selection, it will crash. Period.
If I then open up Photoshop again, any future use of these tools is without issue.
But, if I totally turn off the computer, turn it back on, and open Photoshop for the first time a hard power on--it again doesn't matter how long I use photoshop for any reason. The second I use either Object or Quick Selection for the first time within the first session of Photoshop since my most recent hard power on, it will crash photoshop.

I'm sure you saw this post. Various crashes occur, but in most cases, it seems to occur in the function related to select. Even pressing w appears to cause a crash.
I reported a bug about object selection tool and select subject a few days ago, and Adobe said it will be fixed in a future release.
