P: Crashes every time I close out a photo (win)

I have updated CC 2015, both Lightroom and Photoshop. I can open Photoshop and can open a photo. Every time I close out a photo, Photoshop crashes with the message, Adobe Photoshop CC has stopped working. It will now close.

I can't use the new update;

Is there a solution to this? It's happening to me as well after updating PhotoShop CC 2015...and I have hundreds of photos to edit!!! And I can't go back to an old version of PhotoShop. Any idea when there will be a fix to this problem? : (

I'm having this issue. But I can't close PS without it crashing, so when I uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" and try to close photoshop it always crashes, and doesn't save that setting.

I also have 2 photos that automatically open as recovered files every time I launch PS (photos that I was working on when it started crashing).

Cale - I had the same problem. Only way I could get the workaround to work was to save the recovered images when the dialog box came up after I clicked 'exit'. I had to do each one individually - it crashed after the first one. After saving, the images didn't appear as 'recovered' any more and the preferences had saved the unchecked 'use graphics processor' box. No more crashes since. Good luck!

I downloaded photoshop CC 2015 a few days ago and now every time i close an image it closes the running program. when i reopen photshop "all" the images i've opened are still there accumulating. How do i change the setting to work as it did before? close images but keep program open and running? Tom

This problem is still affecting my PS 2015 install.
I have disabled the graphics processor.

I would be happy to reinstall PS 2014 as I had no such issues with that product

Adam I tried your temp fix and unchecked graphix processor, quit ps, and reopened it. It did not work to solve the problem. as soon as i tried to 'close all' (as my worked on images are accumulating in the workspace) it closed the ps program. Upon reopening the program a second time I checked in the preferences and the box was re-checked, so I unchecked it again and attempted to close one image before quit photoshop. It crashed the program again. my OS is windows 7 home.

Thanks for posting, Scott. I had the same issue, only with 10 images open. It took a while but saving each one, one at a time, finally got me to where I could change the graphics card preference and keep the setting. Hope they fix the bug soon!

Tom, you have to close each image, one at a time - because photoshop will crash every time, until all the images are closed. I had 10 images open and it took me 10 times to finally close out of photoshop. Then you can go in and change the preference and it will save correctly. The reason it doesn't save is because photoshop crashes when you try to close a file so it never actually saves and loads your preference change.

...when prompted to save your image files when trying to close them, select YES and save the "recovered file." Upon saving and closing the file, photoshop will crash. When you open photoshop again, the image won't reopen so proceed to the next open file...so on and so forth...until each file is closed.

I am an adobe member & was using Photoshop CC 2014, 32 bit satisfactorily but after release of CC 2015, 32 bit, I have downloaded it & if I open any picture in the photoshop browser & after that, if it is required to close the picture, I click (x) cross mark on the respective file , message giving " photoshop is not working try to let us check the web ", then I have to close the window. So far we've had no luck reproducing this issue in-house. It would really up us if we could get some more information from those of you that have reported the problem...

1. Do you have any other applications running at the same time as PS when it crashes? If so, what are they?
2. When you updated to PS CC 2015, did you leave previous versions of PS on your system, or did the installer remove previous versions so that the only version of CC left on your system is PS CC 2015?
3. How many displays are you using?

The PERFORMANCE GRAPHICS change you suggest appears to require a clean PS shutdown. When I exit PHOTOSHOP, it asks if I want the currently opened images saved and I respond NO, but then the program ABENDS. When I restart PHOTOSHOP, the graphics options has again been re-activated and it has the images opened that I have been unsuccessful closing in the past already opened.

Out of curiosity what video card/GPU do you have in your Windows system?

Also, to get the preference to stick:

1. Launch Photoshop
2. Change the preference (uncheck Use Graphics Processor in performance prefs)
3. Quit Photoshop
4. Re-launch PS and the preference should now be set.

1) Running 64-bit CPU - Windows 7 PRO.
2) As noted in previous reply - when I start PS CC 2015, it has saved several images opened immediately. I change the graphics options and then exit, but PS attempts to close the images, abends, and the graphic option is not saved. When PS is relaunched, the graphic option is back.
3) I have Adobe Elements and 2014 CC PS installed. 2014 CC is unusable and can be deleted. Until I have a stable CC PS, I need to keep Elements around.
4) At least one abend dump was sent to Microsoft.

Disabling the use of the graphics processor failed to fix the problem for me.

My other open apps include the creative cloud control panel, and the Opera web browser with 4-6 tabs open. My system seems to have no problem loading and running everything. It's running smoothly and quietly when it crashes.

I had PS '14 expired trial version installed when I updated to '15. I upgraded my account to full creative cloud membership instead of just single app with Illustrator, because I like what I saw in the trial and wanted to use PS more. I assumed that '14 was uninstalled with the new installation of '15. I did not uninstall '14 prior to the update.

Since the crashing, I have uninstalled PS and reinstalled. The reinstallation did not fix the problem.

1. I traditionally have several apps running at the same time. Office Suite, Chrome, Windows Explorer, Bridge, etc. It hasn't mattered if I have many or no other apps open.
2. When I upgraded to PS CC 2015 I completely uninstalled all old versions myself prior to any installation of new applications.
3. 2 displays, though I'm using a wackadoo VGA to USB converter for the 2nd.

As recommended, I unchecked the "Use Graphics Processor" box and can now close files. It also now saves settings and actually shows recent files. \o/

I guess that's what the window that kept popping up told me to do if I had any problems, right? "Oh, is that what they meant by 'problems'?"

I'm not surprised that Photoshop has finally surpassed the ability of a computer I use (especially as this is an old machine, waiting to be retired), though I wouldn't have expected it to manifest in this way. Slow to move, sure. Can't close correctly, not so much.
