Each time I save on a network drive driven by Mac OS X 10.7.5 (I know, pretty old) connected via afp, Photoshop creates this empty and unneccessary folder. Is there any solution?
Just updated to Photoshop 21.0.0 today, and immediately noticed this problem. I'm on macOS 10.14.6. Really annoying that our network storage will soon be littered with photoshop folders.
I just contacted the support team and the guy I was talking to was like 'oh I guess that IS happening, hmm'. It keeps putting an empty folder into my Documents which really messes up my entire flow. Its due to the new Photoshop Cloud, which I don't use, so its basically just an empty set of folders that continue to reappear after deletion.
This bug is happening when opening a file from an AFP server (but not SMB), making an edit to the file, and saving (overwriting it) back to the server, Photoshop 2020 (21.0.0 or 21.0.1) is leaving an empty "Photoshop" folders next to the edited file.
If you watch closely while the saving process is happening, you can see it writes the new edited file as a temporary file into this Photoshop folder during the saving process. Then the temp file then disappears, when it actually moves it to take the place of the now deleted old file, and then that Photoshop folder is left behind. This does not happen when working from local hard drives.
Here is a related thread over on the Community Forums
We have the same problem (along with many others) when saving to an AFP network drive. Its really messing up my user's workflow. Plus wasting a lot of our client's time deleting empty, unneeded, folders.
After updating to v21 Photoshop created an empty folder here and there. SO annoying and highly critical that Adobe launches a version with such a bug. A simple google search will show you that it drives many people mad!
Just happened that Adobe Illustrator 2020 is behaving identically – also empty folders, named "Adobe Illustrator 2020". Please investigate this too ...
The only way that the folder does not appear is if Photoshop is not open and active. Until this gets fixed, my use of the app will be limited. They just released new updates for Illustrator and InDesign today so I'm hoping they will release Photoshops soon!
