P: CS6 / CC Keyboard shortcuts not responding Mavericks/Yosemite MacOS 10.9; 10.10

Since Installing Mavericks on my mac pro, the keyboard shortcuts, such as zooming in/out, undo etc, intermittently do not respond.
I have to click on another tool in the tool bar to get the keyboard to respond again.
The problem returns intermittently and seemingly not as a result of the Auto Save function.
My mac pro 15" has 8gb of ram which is more than enough for the type of work I do.I am an illustrator who primarily works around the brush tool.
Have tried disabling Graphics Processor and restarting, but this does not resolve the issue.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Are you using any extension panels - such as MiniBridge?

Hey Jeffrey,

No I don't have mini bridge running. My current thoughts are to revert back to Lion, but am trying to source a disk.
Strangely it seems to stabilise as I work through the day. Less noticeable incidents anyway.
I don't seem to be having any other issues. Just keyboard shortcuts from time to time. Pretty annoying though.
No idea why it is so random as well.

Any thoughts?

If you encounter the issue where KB shortcuts stop working, let me know if the following items make other shortcuts work again:

Hitting the Esc key
Clicking on another tool
Switching applications (to safari) and back to Photoshop.
Close other applications one by one and retest the shortcuts

Hey Jeffrey,

Thanks for your response.
The keyboard commands will work again if you click a layer on your layers palette,
or make another stroke (sometimes two) with the brush, or click on another tool.

So I find myself pressing cmd+z with no response, then having to make another brush stroke before it allows me to cmd+alt+z to go back to where i wanted to be.
Getting used to it now, but it sure is a pain in the butt.

My wacom is an intuos 5 and the driver is the latest version 6.3.7-3

My photoshop system info is the hefty read out of text as follows.

Forgot to answer a few things, apologies.

Pressing escape does nothing. So basically no keyboard functions work.
Switching applications (to safari) and back to Photoshop sorts it out again.
Clicking on another application and back to PS again also fixes it.

OK. I think I know what this issue is. I was able to repro this with the help of another user where paint>step backward (using the wacom tablet) several times caused PS to stop responding to shortcuts. Clicking again anywhere brings it out of the state.

Does that sound about right?

We're investigating where this issue occurs wrt PS<>Tablet<>OS.

Do let me know if you guys come up with anything. I have an appointment booked at the genius bar next week to see if they can put Lion back on my system. Hopefully that will stop it from happening.
I think I'll wait for a little while before upgrading to mavericks again.

I just upgraded to Mavericks. I am on CC and having the same issue.
Keyboard shortcuts no longer work in Photoshop. Example: Command + Spacebar just gives me the pointer instead of the zoom.

Hi Martha, that sounds like a different issue. Are you using a Wacom tablet? Does the problem happen after brushing a bit?

That's exactly the problem!

Again, the only solution thus far is to retrograde the system back to the Lion family.

The issue didn't seem to happen on earlier versions of Photoshop CC. It only started happening recently, and not straight after the Mavericks update. The first issue was a sort of freeze in Photoshop that affected the whole app, together with high CPU usage. That issue seems to be gone now since 14.1.2. But this new issue was introduced that I'm pretty sure wasn't present in the previous version (I was on 14.0.0 and this particular issue wasn't present).

For me, I never experienced this problem on CS6 before updating to Mavericks.
I was previously running lion and I can say with a degree of certainty that this was not an issue.
I use photoshop daily and this command all the time.

No Wacom tablet. It does not matter what I do - I have changed tools, tried using the brush then tried it, tried other tools, switched and switched again. The Command + Spacebar to zoom simply - Does Not Work.

Oh, and BTW - having the SAME issue in Illustrator!

NOT happy. I use Photoshop and Illustrator every day and this shortcut is one I use a lot. I am with you Andrew - will go back to Mt. Lion. That DID work.

For me it's all post Mavericks.

I experience the issue intermittently when I'm trying to change the size of the paintbrush or change tools using the keyboard. All keyboard shortcuts become unresponsive. I can work around it just by tapping with my stylus anywhere on the screen which allows me to get working again, but wow, it's really frustrating.

My wacom drivers weren't fully up to date but removing and updating them did not cure the issue unfortunately.

I have iMac with 16GB RAM and fusion drive + Wacom Intuos 3

Not sure if this is a common factor but I also have a dual monitor setup.

I'm experiencing the same issue as Paul, and as this topic and this started ONLY after upgrading to Mavericks.
I have a MBP, 16GB RAM and a Wacom Bamboo Create tablet, when I'm working on Photoshop CS6 (plus using brush) there's a moment when Ps will freeze for a second: the keyboard shortcuts won't respond and the only way to work again is by tapping with my stylus anywhere on the screen as Paul said as well. And sometimes after this Photoshop will get a little bit slow, can't understand this since my mbp is almost new (mid-2013).

As Paul, I've updated the wacom drivers and even removing them and re-installing everything but nothing worked whatsoever. There was an update for Photoshop these past few days and I thought this could be solved, sadly nothing at all.
Still waiting for a solution cos I work all day on Ps with my wacom and I have to encounter this problem as well all day. It's infuriating.

Is anyone making progress towards fixing this issue? I have nothing more to post about it as I can't describe it better than what I've already read here. If there's anything I can do to help or speed up the process I would love to...

I really hope this gets fixed very soon as it makes Photoshop feel like a pre-beta release. It's silly how we buy these expensive computers, tablets, software only to have it behave like this. I don't know whose fault it is but I'm sure that even if it's Apple/Wacom's fault, they will listen more to Adobe than to us. So please do something!

We're continuing to work on it, and work with Apple and third parties to get their 10.9 bugs resolved.

Glad to hear this is being worked on. I am having similar issues since upgrading to Mavericks. Will probably go back to Mountain Lion until this is resolved.

I have since reverted back to Mountain Lion and have experienced none of the same problems since doing so.
I see this as the only fix for now.

Will see if anything comes out of adobe's investigations into this issue, but won't be upgrading again for a while.

Same issue. KB shortcuts do not respond. Working with an old Wacom ET-0405A-U
Such a shame this issue is so annoying
