P: Delay while zooming in or out with the trackpad on macOS Photoshop 22.3

After updating the photoshop in my mac pro, when I use the zoom in the trackpad it works with some delay, like if it was trying to make it "smooth" but it's actually really annoying. Anyone with the same problem?

Yup. Same problem and it's on two different computers. I had to revert to the previous version until they work it out

There was a bug reported with the zoom feature. Try the troubleshooting techniques here to see if it helps.

I just checked to see if a bug was reported. There was a similar bug reported last October. I am going to report this as a bug and I will update as soon as I get a response. You can also search and report bugs here

I have literally skipped out on 6 updates because of this issue. Why is it that whenever I zoom into an image and I drag the image from left to right, it doesn't even have to be left to right, it could be any angle and the image lags in a glitchy way. this BUGS ME. I thought adobe would have fixed this with the last five updates. I finally decided to give the latest update a try, which is the V 22.3 since I was using v 21.2.6 and the same thing is STILL happening. out of frustration, I downgraded back to
what I was using which is the v 21.2.6.

Is there anything being done about this or am I stuck with this issue? I have attached a video to this post so you all can get an idea of what I'm trying to explain. btw i'm a iMAC (Big Sur)

Hi,

I see your video, but I don't really see the big deal. And much of this will also depend on your computer, and how fast it can process, and how large the image is. If its a huge image, it will take time for the computer to process the move and the new move of the HUGE image. I just zoomed in on my screen and moved things around... and have NO ISSUES at all.

Is it happening with small images?

You don't see the big deal? really? first of all, what might seem small to you could be a big deal for someone else. And my computer is new. purchased it last year in June 2020 and is compactable with photoshop. the iMAC computer comes with a 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 processor, and a 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 memory, you can't tell me it isn't compactable with photoshop. And, it happens to ALL IMAGES doesn't matter what size the image is. I draw my comics in an 8.5 by 12-inch document with a 400DPI which shouldn't be a big deal for photoshop to handle. I have been using photoshop since 2008 and have never had this issue so Yes it is a big deal and it is frustrating because as I'm drawing with a graphic tablet, zooming in and out is a nightmare. It bounces around everywhere.
I was hoping for a solution or maybe some kind of answer to why this is happening and if it's being worked on by Adobe but instead, I feel like you are making a mockery of the situation. at least that's how your reply came off.

Same issue here. Running on an Apple Silicon MBP. Thought it was ironic because v23 is supposdly supporting Apple Silicon now.

v22.2.0 seems to not have the issue and is working fine thru Rosetta. Hope adobe fixes the issue soon! I can't stand the zooming bug.

Was running v22.3 on my M1 MacBook Pro with that thicc RAM.

Supposedly v22.3 supports Apple Silicon so I was excited to see performance improvements.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the horrible performance of simply zooming in and out.

The zooming in/out of the artwork is super delayed from my fingers pinching on the trackpad.

I did not have this issue running v22.2 thru rosetta on the same machine.

Tried multiple images (smaller ones) to see if it was just file size slowing downnthe app but got the same results.

I'll be using v22.2 for now but hopefully I'm just missing a weird setting that I changed maybe?

Maybe it's a bug (saw ppl were ahving other issues and same issue with v22.3). Anyways pls fix/help me! D'':

Hi there,

We're sorry for the zoom issue after the recent update. Could you please turn off the Graphics Processor option from the Photoshop preferences > Performance tab > relaunch Photoshop and check if that helps.

I have the same issue.

Specifically, zoom in Photoshop behaves like there's inertia driving the zoom. I don't have issues with the zoom anchoring at a random point though.

I am sorry if I offended you, that was definitley not my intention. I was just sharing that to me it didn't look so abnormal since sometimes there is a delay on the redraw with big files, and was sharing some of the reasons.

I do have the latest update, but I was not seeing the issue on my side when testing that's all.

Your files are relatively large, but it seems like others are also having this issue.

Hope you are able to get it resolved. My apologies.

working with 22.3.0 and Big Sur on a macbook pro its interesting but very annoying and it seems to have come out of nowhere, like i accidentally unchecked a box or something, I agree with community, it is very annoying and I presemed it weas my memory at firstand spent way too much of my short life on that. One observation is that the zoom speed is linked to how fast i move my fingers on the trackpad, which further reassured me that its not a memory issue. A quick work around FYI (although i look forward to a fix) ...press option and slide two fingers up and down the trackpad and that disables the default)..kindest..

Same problem (PS version 22.3.1) on the MacBook Pro 16" 2020. It's really annyoing and influences my entire workflow. So back to a version that works. 😅

Hi Mark,
The point here is that the same image, irrespective of its size, will have the laggy zoom issue on the current versions, but roll back, on same hardware, and same image file, and it does not, so it is a software issue, not the hardware that can't keep up...
I would make a video, as I have both versions running on same machine, but I think you can just take my word for it... 😉
Happy to hear you dont have the issue, and perhaps we can figure out why its not an issue accross the board, but it is a really big issue - its pretty much unuseable as is...

k here goes.. received my MBP Max 32gb and I opened up photoshop and opened up 50/70 images (18 mp each ) into separate windows I then clicked on various ones with the trackpad.. half of them were jerky and laggy as hell in trying to pinch zoom using the trackpad 2 finger pinch zoom. Some worked well but half were bad. My Intel MBP i9 with 64gb has NO problems at all! I also had the 14 Max 64gb a few weeks ago and don't recall any problems with that. I no longer have that machine so I can't compare now. ALSO I noticed when I very first turned this 16 max machine on the trackpad would not work with more than one finger, I restarted and it worked fine...Also sometimes I clicked on one of those photos and photoshop disappears into hiding mode and bridge pops up!! Weird. Do I have a trackpad problem AND is the photoshop problem to do with just having 32GB?? Please help. Will I have to send it back and reorder the 64gb Max! Does opening many windows in photoshop really need that 64gb!?? SO BASICALLY WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED IS THATT IT OPENS UP THE FIRST 20\25 IMAGES AND THEY ZOOM FLAWLESSLY BUT ANY MORE THAN THAT ARE JERKY AND LAGGY. PLEASE HELP

I have an M1 Max 64GB Macbook pro, Zoom and Pan is extemly laggy, unusable. Photoshop Version 6 on my intel celron from 2002 runs faster.

Is adobe going to fix this? Did intel pay you guys to make it slow on Macbooks?
