Since I updated MacBook Pro to OSCatalina and also Photoshop to latest version 20.0.6 (both same day) I cannot save any file to pdf format well. And by well I mean that every time I try to save any file to pdf what it does is save it with a .psd extension (but it is actually a pdf). Thing is I already lost to layered master Psd files because of this bcause when it asked to rewrite the file at saving (thinking it was an old pdf) I accepted. Meh! I lost the original.

It appears that with yesterday's installation of Catalina on my Mac, Photoshop is not saving to the proper file format.  When attempting to save a .tif file to a save as .jpg file, I choose the JPEG file format in the dropdown menu, but Photoshop doesn't recognize this and saves the file as a .tif file, then sends me a warning message asking if I want to replace the .tif file with the new one.  I have to manually delete the .tif extension and type in .jpg for the file to be saved to the proper format.  Many times, and this was well before installing Catalina, Photoshop also saves a file to a previously opened folder rather than the one I am working on, and I have to search for the saved file.  MADDENING!  I did see several posts regarding the file save issues, but this has only happed to me since installing Catalina yesterday.

What the hell is going on. This will delay my work tremendously. Is there any PLUG IN to help with this failure?

No, you will have to wait for an update. This is why it is so important to first read the info on compatibility issues and then decide if you upgrade your OS or wait till these kind of problems are solved.

Johan -- as far as I know, my DAP program is 64 bit compatible, but it seems to be the WINE wrapping that's causing the problem.  Who can determine all of this on every piece of software one is running before updating??  I like to keep my computer up to date for security reasons, so I always install the new operating systems when they come out...and I don't like to be thought of as being stupid for doing this -- who can keep up with all of the rapid-fire changes in technology unless you're in the industry that's creating them?  It should be the job of the software developers to keep their products updated, not mine -- they're the ones making money, and I'm the one spending it.  DAP is 64 bit, but WINE is not, so the conflict is there.  DAP is trying to make their program useable on a Mac, so good for them!  It works well, and I like the software and will find a way to use it if I have to boot from Mojave installed on an external disk until the update comes!  HAVE A GREAT DAY!

And who would have ever thought that installing Catalina would cause this problem with Photoshop?  Where would one even begin to check for this type of compatibility issue?  I update when the new operating systems come out for security reasons as well as bug fixes regarding current issues, so who knows what will happen after installation of a new system...only the tech gurus can fix these things.

Hmm, that doesn't seem to be the issue on my end. I'm saving it as a PSD, but when I go to reopen the file it does not open and gives me that error.

That way this complain os about, you have to save .jpg, .psd etc manually.

ok! i found a work around: when on this screen, unclick Maximize Compatibility and it works!

Hi Axel, I think i was having a different issue from other folks. My issue was with files created before the upgrade to the new iOS. When I would open and try to save them (manually or otherwise), they would not open again. I just found that if I manually saved, AND turned off Maximize Compatibility, then I was able to reopen files.

Wrong. This is not it. Try open a .jpg file. Add a layer and try to save it as .jpg It does't work.  Aka File extension (ex. jpg) not changing during format change after upgrade to macOS 10.15 Catalina

Weird. I'm not able to reproduce that with file that have Maximize Compatibility turned on. If you encounter another file that does this, let me know. I'd like to get a copy of it.

Hi, I think we're talking about two different things 🙂 I had originally started up a new chat discussion here, but my issue got merged into this topic, so I think we're both trouble shooting different issues.

This is it. You have a layer file and want to save it as .jpg but you have to type yourself the formate change to be known. Otherwise .pdf file is saved as you opened it .pdf even though you save it as .jpg

I have to agree with Barbara—as a customer it shouldn't be our job to play guinea pig for Adobe. It should be Adobe's responsibility as developers to be aware of up and coming updates to OS's and review BETA copies of that OS for any possible incompatibilities before they become issues. I understand that in an imperfect world some things are apt to slip through undetected (which happens way too often) however to make the statement "This is why it is so important to first read the info on compatibility issues and then decide if you upgrade your OS or wait till these kind of problems are solved"—this is just a cop-out. If you know of certain issues, we should be notified through our Adobe CC subscription in a popup message.

Folks, you never, EVER do a day one major OS update if your job depends on your machine running smoothly. For months, all over the internets, it's been strongly advised to not install Catalina if you don't have to.

Whilst I acknowledge that this isn't the same problem that Mac users have with Catalina and Photoshop, I'm beginning to question the whole updated iOS 13 in relation to file compatibility
within Apple system.

I'm having huge problems with www.icloud.com not being able to read .jpg or .jpeg files from photos edited in Photoshop. It doesn't matter which way I save the photos, whether using Save As, etc. or where I source the original photos from. 

Any iphotos which I've downloaded to my Windows PC from www.icloud.com and which I've edited in Photoshop and then re uploaded to www.icloud.com will not open on my iPhone or iPad. 

I know it's not Photoshop, because I can't use any .jpg / .jpeg photo files from any of my Canon or Sony cameras, which I've uploaded to www.icloud.com  My iPhone and iPad Photo App will display the error message: Cannot open the Photo.

I have been helping Apple Engineers for two weeks with this problem of Photos App not being able to open photos on iPhone or iPad. We've had screen shares, file shares, with me listing step by step for them to reproduce the problem and they can't find anything. Today, as a last resort, we shared a logging session where I uploaded a saved edited Photoshop .jpg file to www.icloud.com and my Photos on iPhone 'Could not load Photo'.

Dear eartho, Champion -- neither my life nor my job depend upon installing Catalina, and for me, thus far, the only application that has been seriously affected is an art program wrapped in a Wineskin...it is Wineskin that's causing the problem.  This info was separated from my original post.  As far as the file extensions not being saved to the proper file format, I'm sure that Adobe will correct that as soon as they can.  I will try to install Mojave on an external boot drive and operate the Wineskin software from Mojave on that drive until Wineskin and the Window's program is updated.  I automatically update my software so that I am current and have never had any serious problems.  When you think about it, these developers create some fantastic programs for us, and they provide many opportunities for creativity and the gathering of information.  My hat is off to all of them, because I surely couldn't do what they do!  I will wait for them to correct the problems and work around it in the best way that I can!

No wonder they've not found time to call me for a session. They're too busy with you. (sigh) iPad OS isn't able to preview files in folders that are on my iPad and have never been a problem before. Airdrop is barely even working at all. One file up or down at a time is okay into photos is okay, but not folders, even small ones, into Files or shared from Files.

 I updated to iPad OS for the sake of using a portable drive with it, and it appears by gaining that, I sacrificed the ability to even see the files in folders  that have more than 100 files in them.

All the problems with the latest updates aren't just Adobe's. I'm sorry you're in trouble with it. I'm relieved that I'm not alone  so the engineers can't simply dismiss me—even if they don't call back to make an appointment as promised. They're obviously very, very busy!

Ahh Cristen, it's a nightmare for sure!  I'm sorry Apple Engineers haven't been in contact with you. I have come across so many problems with file formats, photos, notes and today alone I've sent another 3 files to Apple Support. I've got an open link with them for 7 days so I guess they might be taking the issue seriously.

The iOS 13 upgrade has really caused issues with file incompatibility.

Thank heavens I don't own a Mac!  Sorry Mac users! I sure feel for you with the issues your having with Catalina OS
