P: Lens Blur Fails

Just installed the update to Photoshop CC 2020 but Lens Blur now fails to work. I get a total checkerboard effect and if I click OK the filter simply fails and leaves the image blank/checker-boarded. HELP !!!

Just ascertained that it seems to be centred around 16bit mode and also noticed that Filter Gallery now only works in 8bit mode as well.

Rolled back to Photoshop CC2019 and everything works fine in 16bit mode so must be an issue with the update. Lens Blur still works fine and performance is same as before. Looks like the Lens Blur update has failed when its supposedly had its performance improved. Now what ??

Filter Gallery has never worked on 16-bit documents.

It looks like there is a newer driver for your intel card: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/126790/Intel-UHD-Graphics-630

Hi Jeffrey, I followed that link and the Intel Driver Assistant told me I had a customised manufacturer driver, so I went to Asus support page, which led me to a rather heart-in-mouth manual installation of a driver that seemed to be the generic driver Intel warned against using !!!

So I'm going to screw-them-all and get a graphics card rather than continue with the Intel on-board graphics.

Managed to update driver from with device manager to no effect. Problem still persists. Lens Blur fails to work in 16bit mode but is okay in 8bit mode. Suspect if I install a new
graphics card the problem will persist and just be back to square one.

Probably a good idea. Integrated cards don't have as much support for compute operations - and they need to share RAM.

Hi folks, many thanks for all your help on this. I installed a Radeon gfx card, updated the driver and Lens Blur is back to normal in 16bit mode. No issues with having to disable the on-board gfx plus they don't show up in display adaptors anyway.

Probably just a few tweaks needed here and there to optimise/take advantage of the new card in Photoshop.

Engineering got back to me. Looks like these Intel(R) UHD cards aren't supported at all and should have been blacklisted. The workaround is to disable Preferences > Performance... "Use Graphics Processor" and retry the filter.

These cards will be disabled and Lens Blur will use CPU instead in future releases. So having a dedicated card is the best solution. Thanks.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the response. I already had that workaround in place. It wasn't a card as such but on-board gfx. Dedicated card solved everything and we're flying again. TBH I always had a dedicated gfx card but the Intel on-board was so good I stuck with it after my rebuild in Q3 of 2018.
