P: Liquify - No more virtual tiles can be allocated - error message

New iMac i7 and CS4. Tried to liquify and got the 'no more virtual tiles can be allocated' error message. I can't find a definition of virtual tiles. I have 16 gigs of RAM and 1 TB HD. Any help would be appreciated.

How big is the file you are trying to edit in Liquify? Does this happen when you first select Liquify from the Filter menu? Or after you start brushing/using tools in the Liquify dialog?

It won't let me begin liquifying, doesn't open. File size is 4272x2843 pixels 300ppi. Thanks for your help. Any thoughts?

Performance issues and low memory situations should be alleviated in Photoshop CS6 with the the GPU accelerated improvements made to Liquify.

I get the same error with many of the filters using CS3 on Windows 7. Will upgrading to CS6 correct the problem? My husband downloaded a trial of Elements and received the same error on Filters. We were thinking it's a compatibility issue with Windows 7 but can't verify that. I don't want to spend the money on CS6 upgrade unless I'm sure it'll work.

The CS6 and newer Liquify does not use the virtual tiles system anymore. It has been completely rewritten to use your GPU if it is powerful enough.
