P: M1 Rectangle/Circle selection tool problem

Community Beginner ,
Mar 11, 2021 Mar 11, 2021

When using the rectangle/circle selection tool while the image is enlarged, the response time from the selection tool is suddenly significantly delayed if the scroll goes off the horizontal or vertical currently visible canvas when dragging with the selection tool.

This is a problem when using Photoshop 22.3.0 on an M1 mac mini, and it didn't happen with Photoshop m1 beta 22.1.0, so I'm still using the beta version. Please solve this problem.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this. Our team has been able to reproduce this issue and we have logged it as a bug.

Could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

If that doesn't help, then you may try resetting Photoshop's preferences and see how it goes:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Note: Make sure that you back up all your custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

Regards,
Sahil

Wow that method was correct.  But if you don't use a graphics processor, won't the performance drop??  I am wondering if it will work with canceling the graphics processor.  We hope that the graphics processor error is resolved!  🙂 Thanks for solving the current problem!!! :))

When I check this again, the graphics processor can be used. However, if you check off Environment Settings>Graphic Processor>Advanced Menu>"Use GPU acceleration" Check off and everything will be solved.

You can now avoid errors in the shape selection tool while using a graphics processor! thank you for the information.

However, this is not a perfect solution. T.T
I wait for the next update to 22.3.0!

Scripting this same tool, the rounded rectangle selection, is also broken... get error message "This functionality maybe not be available in this version of PhotoShop"... the same script worked fine with 22.2. Most of my AppleScript / Javascript applets do not work with 22.3 so I simply reverted back to 22.2 and all is well. Unfortunately it's not M1 native!

@roland_gustafsson I tried both 22.x native and Intel, but there was no problem with Intel. However, it is very unfortunate that the optimization and smoothness are definitely less than that of the native..T.T
