MacBook Pro Apple M2 Max 96GB RAM - Photoshop 24.2
I recently changed to this new computer and photoshop is super laggy in tools like liquify and other filters, the brush lags a lot!
Even the zoom is slow.
Even my 2015 MacBook is faster at these tasks.

I don't know what is going on but something can't be right...

Hey @Kaladdune. Instead of disabling GPU for Photoshop, press & hold the OPT key when you click on Filter Menu > Liqufy to skip using GPU only for Liquify, and other features will not be impacted.

Thanks!

I had an Adobe advisor shared a great tip with me yesterday via chat, and it fixed the isse for me on a MacBook Pro M2 Max: go to the Applications folder > Find Adobe Photoshop > expand to see the actual *.app file > right click > get info > select "Open using Rosetta". Even though I have the Apple silicion version of Photoshop downloaded, the advisor mentioned Liquify uses the GBU, and because Apple silicon architechture is different in terms of graphics, Rosetta will help with processing it. It definetly fixed the issue for me! 😃Screenshot 2023-05-18 at 9.05.54 AM.pngexpand image

I changed photoshop 2023 to using rosetta and I still have the lag issue in liquify. I tried the beta photoshop (version 24.6) and the lag issue is still present for me. I do not have the lag issue when using photoshop 2022.

Didn't work for me. And just opening PS took about 15 seconds...

Why buy a beast of a M2 Max and not be able to use it to its full potential.

Adobe has to get their act together. We are Pro's and need to be able to work

Yesterday Liquify worked well on Beta 24.6 but today it started acting up again.

Even after a restart to try to release all the resources it still stutters.

Why can't they fix it???

I've tried the various methods mentioned in this thread, the lag sometimes disappears irregularly, but overall it's still there and far less smooth than PS2022. Now I have to continue using PS2022 until the bug is completely fixed.

Coming back to this thread as I now have experienced the liquify lag on M2 Max, I didn't have it before.

It's something triggered/attentuated by the display used - when I work on my Eizo CS2740 (a HiDPI display) connected via USB3, and secondary HD monitor via HDMI, it doesn't happen (Macbook built in display open or closed, doesn't matter).

When I disconnect the USB3 monitor, keep only a HD monitor via HDMI only, then the famous lag happens. I haven't tried the Macbook display only.

Please! New Beta update, incredible new tools but the good old liquify is still almost unusable on a MacBook Pro M2... it is so laggy, specially when using a Wacom Intuos Pro as input device.

Yeah, this really sucks... The AI generator is cool but some of us generate our own stuff and need to work for a living.

It's unbelievable that after months Adobe doesn't fix the M2 compatibility. My M1 Pro was a lot faster than this and I had half the RAM. Why invest in a better Mac when it's going to be limited?

I'm getting really irate now. This needs to be fixed ASAP!

have you tried holding Option when opening liquify? this (while still very annoying) does seem to fix my lagging issue. It's at least useable now

That's leterally what I feel. It's so frustrating, Photoshop has become a ready-made software for beginners but it's not longer a reilable software for professionals.. I will skip in Capture One if they don't fix all the Adobe issues.

I, too, am seeing the exact same issue.  I believe the main issue is that Adobe still doesn't have full support for Apple Silicon chips yet.  If you remember when Apple changed from the G3 chip (Motorola chip) to Intel, it took almost three years to get it sort of right.  We had the same issues then.  Adobe is very well know for not supporting new technologies this the reason so many competitors have come up.

I'd like to remind everyone complaining about this problem, that Adobe wanted your money every month with the promise of being able to update quickly whenever there is a problem. We paid and they haven't fixed the problem and it's been entirely way too long. Make sure you voice that to Adobe. This is absurd.

After the past few days of conversing with Adobe via Twitter (yes, they still use Twitter), I found out that the issue lies completely within the GPU acceleration part of Adobe products AND because our new computers are so fast, just turn off GPU acceleration and it will work perfectly.  After doing so, the Liquify filter works flawlessly.  Yes, I know, we shouldn't have to do this but it's not a serious issue at this time for those of us on Max or Ultra chips, not sure about regular M1 or M2 chips.  But in any case, give it a shot and see what happens.  Adobe did say they are working on a fix but who knows how long that will be.

If you disable "use graphics processor" setting you can use liquify with no lag. But this way you "can't use" brush pressure, destiny and other settings. :(:(:(  need update asap!!
