P: Crash on using Select Subject or Object Selection Tool on Windows

Just got the new update for Photoshop v23.0. I cannot use the object seletion tool anymore without Photoshop crashing after a few steps.

I have the latest iteration of PS 23.0.1 update. It still continues to instantly go into reboot mode when I click on the selection tool. I went in and changed the preferences un-clicking the Open CL. Nothing is checked in that box. Restarted PS and it rebooted instantly again. So I unchecked the graphics card and restarted PS, selected the Object tool and instantly went into reboot mode again. Since the software reboots it doesn't kick a crash report. I tried clicking on all of the PS icons and nothing would let me in as per your directions. So I loaded the script into the DOS cmd window and selected yes. What is next? It is like the script you wrote to execute this tool is designed to put my computer into "reboot" mode.

@alfadoctor A system crash/restart usually means a low level failure such as a driver (bad video card driver, etc), failing hardware (hard disk, video card, etc.) or damaged OS installation. I'd suspect a graphics card/driver.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Not seeing a smoking gun with an way out of date driver or card, but I am seeing a bunch of 3rd party plug-ins. Does it make any difference if you start Photoshop with the Shift key held down and click Yes to prevent 3rd party plug-ins from loading?

First off, I want to apologize for sucking up so much space with the system report. I didn't realize when I copied it that it was so HUGE! 

I held the shift key down and launched PS with out the 3rd parties. I opened an image, hit the object select tool, nothing happened right away...then the computer shut down and went into reboot mode.

Sadly I am the same.  When I saw version 23.0.2 today with bug fixes etc I have downloaded that new software and again as soon as I select the selection tool my computer does a reboot. I had also tried without success on version 23.0.1 with same behavior.  No crash report as just go into a reboot.  I will attach my computer setup as you have done.  I keep seeing a general response about such behaviour being due to a faulty driver or video card which is annoying.  I am using the latest NVidia Studio driver and PS 23.0.x is the only program that causes this.  I have no issues with Lightroom and PS version 22.5.3 is totally stable.  I also run all the Topaz software and again no issues so I doubt the fault lies with the driver or video card - much more likely to be some poor code in this verion of PS.  I will send my setup file obtained by photoshop for your reference.  (By the way 23.0.2 works perfectly on my Mac - just not on my main PC)

Just ignore the new 23 version, nothing most of us needs in that version. Use 22.01 vesion works fine as I to jugled versions until this one worked. I recommend updating to 23 when 24 is out. Thats how I'll do it from now on. Like a new car version, skip the first few years since most new car models have issues that are wokred out after.

Well...the latest iteration/irritation of PS 23.02 hasn't solved the problem of the select object tool. It went into immediate reboot mode, just as soon as I pushed the tool icon. No crash report as it is a reboot. I think I will delete this version and revert back to the earlier version that is a lot more stable. This has to be a software issue in the coding to cause it to immediately reboot.

greetings! photoshop 23.0.2. I select a group of objects with the "select object" tool (like a magic wand), cut it out, paste it on another layer... and when you try to do something, photoshop crashes without errors.
the same thing happens when I first cut out an object, and then I try to save it

Since last month everytime I try to use an object selection tool my computer just shuts down (it then turns on after I press any button, but it basically just restarts because every programm that was open is closed now and therefore the PS progress is gone too). I already installed older versions and disabled my GPU, but nothing seems to fix this. I'm not able to submit a crash report because PS itself is not crashing. Did someone else got a similar problem and knows how to fix this?

A system hang or freeze requiring a computer restart usually means a low level failure such as a driver (bad video card driver, etc), failing hardware (hard disk, video card, etc.) or damaged OS installation.

I downloaded the latest Nvidia driver and made sure game over lay was turned off. Then I downloaded the latest PS update. I opened an image, clicked on the object tool and the computer instantly went into reboot mode. 

I have the PS version 22. 5.3. The object selection works.

I am done messing with version 23. I will wait for a later version and hope that someone can figure out what is wrong with the coding.

@A422009753s2e9 I'm not seeing any submitted crash reports from you in our system. If you haven't done so already, please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

Let's try a couple of things to try and stop the crashing:

1. Go to Preferences > Performance and click on the "Advanced Settings" button. Uncheck Use OpenCL, restart Photoshop and try your steps to see if the problem persists.

2. Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Restart Photoshop. Does the problem persist?

You don't have to uninstall. You can have both installed concurrently.

My computer was just upgraded a few months ago, and is still under warranty. So tomorrow I am taking back to the computer place and have them go through this machine and see if there are any issues that I am not aware of. Since the issue is repeatable, that makes it easier to spot where the issue might be. When I get some answers I will report.
