When I open a photo and add a layer to use the spot healing brush, this won't work. I have to make a copy of the back layer to be able to use the healing brush.
I got the same problem on the newest update on Photoshop, never before had any issues using the spot healing brush. I'm on Windows, Adobe Photoshop Version: 22.1.0 20201125.r.94 2020/11/25
Who on this thread was not getting a program error with Photoshop 22.0.x but is now getting with a program error since the 22.1 update that went out Monday night?
Suddenly, this error occurred while retouching with the healing brush standard photo. Stamp or spot healing brush working well. After testing, help solve the problem:
By reducing the image size to 4000px (approximately)
Resize cache to smaller 128-132k
Or change cache levels to 6 (approximately)
There was no such thing before.

Tried all of the above and still getting the error. Doesn't happen until you've been using the healing brush for awhile (5+ minutes). Running OS 10.15.7; haven't updated to Big Sur. Only started with the latest 22.1 update. Any other ideas?
I had to revert to last version and used spot healing all day today without an issue.
Why is it that Adobe management incessantly signs off on these buggy updates. Please keep them away from aircraft or municipal water system development.
Jeffrey - It's now happening on all 3 computers -- 2 desktops and a laptop. So it's definitely not a problem with the preference settings, disabling GPU, restarting PS, etc. Would you please get back to this group and let us know what's going on? Is Adobe working on a fix? Marj
The only thing that has ever worked on my end is to crop the image. No changes in prefs/settings both in PS or system-wide do anything. Cropping the image is the only work around for this. Luckily it's an option in most cases and does not damage anything in a typical workflow. Hope this helps. This has got to be one of the most all time horror issues when dealing with hours worth of work potentially unable to be saved and all you have to rely on is the hope that PS will recover some portion of your work flow. Oh well.
The spot healing brush works at first, but after going to rubber stamp and back to spot healing brush, I get this error. Didn't get the error until after updating.
Getting "Could not complete your request because of a program error" while using the Spot Heal Brush. I notice the error most when trying to spot heal closer to the edges of the canvas. Running Photoshop 22.1 on MacOS Big Sur, 2019 iMac.
"Could not complete your request because of a program error" using the Spot Heal Brush. I get the same error on and off. Sometimes every few seconds, other times I don't get it for several minutes. Running 22.1 on Windows 10. The error was not present (AFAIK) in 22.0.1
Same for me, started happening with the update to 22.1. Re-installing 22.0.1 now to get back to useable functionality. Hopefully Adobe can correct soon!
Ever since the last update the healing brush has given me sporadic "Could not complete your request due to a program error". It's not everywhere on the image but seems to be along some vertical lines. If I flatten the file and add a new layer for the healing it works for a while. On a MacBook Pro with a Wacom tablet if that might make a difference.
Anyone else with this issue? Anyone with a solution?
Same issues when using the healing brush tool. Sometimes, but not always, I use the clone tool and then healing brush and it works. Another bug ... fed up !!
I'm using release 22.1.0 and I have a problem with the spot healing brush.
In some random parts of my image the brush suddenly isn't working. This error pops up: "Could not complete your request because of a program error." When I brush a few inches next to the area, the brush works fine.
There is no difference when I brush on the background layer itself or on a blank layer with "sample all layers" checked.
