P: Photoshop 27 neural filter skin smoothing We've temporarily disable this feature because of error

Participant ,

Tried to use this feature today (worked fin in previous version of PS) and today, after upgrading to ver 27, I get the "We've temporarily disable this feature because of an error" message. Of course I don't know what that error is, but pretty sure it's an error.

Hi All,

Sorry for the inconvenience! We’re aware of this issue and our team is currently investigating it. In the meantime, could you please check if the Neural Filters (especially Skin Smoothing) are working fine in Photoshop 26.11? This will help us isolate whether the problem is specific to version 27.0.

Thanks for your patience while we work on a fix!

Regards,

Srishti

Hi All! The December 4 release of Photoshop (beta) 27.3 includes a potential fix. Please feel free to try it. Fix for Photoshop 2026 (non-beta), will arrive soon.

Thanks!

I tried using the Smart Portrait Neural Filter to change the angle of a face (see image 3) in order to recreate the look of the Chicago Blackhawks' 2000-01 player portraits (see image 4), but the first time around, I get this error (see image 1):

"We've temporarily disabled this filter because of an error"

This message is not helpful because it doesn't tell me what went wrong. The second time, the face moves, but on top of that, some hair is automatically created around the head. (see image 2)

The intended result is simply for the angle of the head to move. This issue exists on Photoshop 27.0.0 for Windows 11 25H2. All you need to do is change the angle of the head in Smart Portrait for both of these bugs to occur.

If you´re finally fixing Skin Smoothing, you should also adress the problem that "skin" is not only in the face, but also the rest of the body. Skin doesn´t end at the blue box in my screenshot! For this kind of image, which is not something uncommon, you just cannot use the filter.

And btw. if both sliders are set to have the least possible effect, the filter should not smooth anything at all. It´s really bad that it always smoothes, not matter, how low you set the sliders. And that also not in line with how actually every other PS filter works.

As of today, November 16th, both the version released with an automatic, unrequested update to v.27, which already had the same problem in its beta version, and the latest version before v.27, the filters don't work. I wonder, as a user of a paid service, how can it be possible to cause damage and inconvenience, even at work, to people who, once again, emphasize that they pay for a COMPLETE and FUNCTIONAL service, after two weeks? I understand there may be bugs, errors, and oversights, but we're talking about a problem that has been going on for over two weeks, as this and other forums attest. Looking forward to your feedback and updates, so we can work and do what we love: be creative!

PS: I use an iMac m1 and a MacBook Air m2, both of which are currently not working. I'll be sure to edit this comment/complaint if a fix is found.

Thank you and keep up the good work everyone.

Screenshot 2025-11-17 at 9.31.53 AM.pngDuring busy photography season this filter has gotten some bug.  It will not work at all to move eyes simply.  I have cleared the cache, I'm done the backend file delete that was posted online, restarted, updated.  What gives?? How can I fix this feature?

Here's a sample pushing eyes all the way otherside - it displays error (but doesn't specify and doesn't work)

Hi @dania448222,

Sorry about this experience. To help us dig deeper, could you share a few details:

  • Does this happen with all photos or only specific files?

  • Are the images JPEG/RAW/other formats?

  • Is the issue the same in a brand-new Photoshop document?

Since you’ve already tried cache clearing and updates, let’s also try a manual preferences reset, which often helps with these issues:

  • Quit Photoshop.
  • Go to: ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • Rename this folder to something like “Backup Photoshop Settings”.
  • Restart Photoshop — a fresh set of preference files will be created automatically.

Let me know if the issue continues after this — we’ll take it from there.

Regards,

Srishti

This is still not working and I am still running on an older version of Beta but it would be helpful if you could actually give us an update about the problem and when it will be fixed.

We have the same problems, it´s not working.

@Srishti Bali I’ve already tried everything you mentioned — including clearing the UXP plugin cache, deleting the folders, reinstalling different Photoshop versions (27.x, 26.x), resetting preferences, and restarting Photoshop and the system.

Unfortunately, the issue still persists.
The Photo Restoration / Image Restoration neural filter remains disabled and shows the same error every time, even after a completely clean setup.

What’s interesting is that the filter DID work earlier today in version 26.1, but suddenly stopped working there as well — without any changes on my side. That makes me think the problem might be on the server side rather than local.

Could you please check if there is a known server-side issue at the moment?

Perhaps what they intend to do is eliminate them and pass everything on to AI.

responsible_face5E5E_0-1763570478422.png

After installing version 27, the Smooth Skin and Smart Portrait filters stopped working. After selecting any option, an error message appears: "The filter has been temporarily disabled due to an error."
I installed the previous version, and the same problem occurred. I had to revert to version 22.2 to even get the Smooth Skin to work...
Of course, I installed the latest drivers for my graphics card. I set it as default, gave it more RAM, and then reset it. I wasted a whole day on this.
I've had enough!

I'm relatively new to this community but this is the third time I have posted on this thread about the disablement of the Face Skin Smoothing in Neural Filters for the last 2 Beta updates.

What I want to know is whether anyone at Adobe is reading these and is going to respond because at the moment it feels like we are all just talking to thin air (and each other). When will Adobe tell us what is going on?

Am I even in the right place to get a response or is this just a chat forum? Is there a way to raise a fault ticket?

Would be nice to have the neck included in skin smoothing, in the neural filters! Not only the face.

Adobe is more focused on selling AI credit and Firefly plans , They are just discouraging users ability to edit locally
