P: Photoshop can't open, freezes on splash image, uses all of ram trying to open then crashes.

I have googled every possible variation of this problem and tried every fix for this problem, none of them worked. I have tried reinstalling photoshop, deleting everything even remotely related to photohop in the appdata, deleting custom fonts, restarting the computer, updating graphics and computer, and holding every possible combination of alt, ctrl and shift while trying to launch in administrator mode. The result is always the same. It opens the splash image, gets to loading preferences or brushes, spikes RAM usage to every last byte of RAM I have, freezes the computer, then crashes.

And no i'm not running it on a potato i'm running it on an Alienware Aurora 4090, it should have more than enough power to handle this and Photoshop ran perfectly fine for months. Then just today it crashed and has never started up again.

Photoshop version 25.11

UPDATE

We identified a problem with a recent Adobe update that caused Photoshop and several other Adobe beta apps to fail to launch. We’ve released an updated installer to fix this problem. Please download and install the latest Creative Cloud beta applications. This update should resolve the launch issue.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

How I fixed it...

I read this thread and deleted the Media Encoder Beta first and now Photoshop is working. Both 2004 and the Beta. So it might be an issue with Media Encoder Beta.

I was able to resolve my issue after multiple failed attempts. The Creative Cloud Cleaner tool which you can find at this link if you scroll down (https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html) is the way to go. I have alot of my important files backed up on an external hard drive so I let the tool clean my entire adobe cloud and I deleted ALL BETA applications. I restarted my computer and installed the non-beta applications and everything is pulling up no problem. Hopefully that saves someone a little time. I was freaking out for a second as my work is contigent on these tools.

I hope you have not lost all your work.  I had the same problem yesterday.  I started a chat on adobe's website and was fortunate enough to get Besson who tried to fix the issue by asking me to uninstall and reinstall photoshop beta but when that failed he requested remote access to my desktop.  He quickly worked out the problem and after ending some adobe in the start up installed the creative cloud clean up tool.  Once he was done using that tool I was able to open photoshop.  All my art is still on my computer.  However, during the process I did regret that I had not backed up my files onto my external hard drive for some time.  Something I will be doing this morning.  I do hope all works out well for you and everyone else who has had issues.

I started a chat on adobe's website. I was asked to try uninstalling
photoshop and reinstalling but there were problems. Besson, requested
remote access to my desktop. He quickly worked out what was happening.
He used Creative cloud scrub which I would be reluctant to use on my own
and he got photoshop up and running. Hope this helps.

Everytime I try to open either Photoshop, Photoshop (Beta), or Illustrator, the opening graphic appears, the icon bounces, but the application freezes and I have to force quit. I'm on a Mac Studio and had the latest version of all applications installed. So far I have tried uninstalling all applications and reinstalling an older version. I have also tried Command + Option + shift while clicking the icon to open and deleteing the file. Nothing seems to work. All the applications I use for video open and function correctly.

ADDITIONALLY:

When uninstalling the Beta: Choose for option "Keep", to keep your preferences, so you won't loose any of your previously, painfully, adjustments and setup info!

Hello, I need help with Photoshop and Photoshop beta, I updated to Sonoma and when I try to open Photoshop, the application does not go beyond the opening image and the message (no responde) appears when I press command + option + escape.

I already tried restarting the macbook, uninstalling and reinstalling photoshop, but it just doesn't work.

Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoder all automatically updated on the morning of August 7. Since then I cannot open Photoshop or Illustrator. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, resetting preferences, PRAM reset and even unplugged/replugged everything. THEN Photoshop will suck down all my system memory so it basically makes the computer run at 1mph.

Anyone else having this problem since the newest update v. 25.11 ???

Same thing is happening to me and I have used Photoshop (Beta)  on this iMac since I bought it.  I deleted it planning to reinstall it and now I can't even find a download for the application. My PS 2024 behalves the same way. So, I guess it doesn't matter.  Still kind of works on my Powerbook but I've lost on the AI features I had working.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/creative-cloud-desktop-discussions/creative-cloud-is-currently-causin...

This is inferred to be caused by the creative cloud, not just by Photoshop.

Currently, some bugs starting at 25.5? 25.6 appear to be caused by Creative Cloud.
But I would like to request an investigation on this, but the developer is not responding on the creative forum.

This will also affect both the upcoming Photoshop and Photoshop beta versions, so I'm leaving this article on the beta forum at the moment.

What I am sure of is as follows.

1. Window 10 OS

2. Photoshop 2024 Even if you don't use the latest or beta version (Creative Cloud is also old), just update to the latest Creative Cloud will damage all existing Photoshops.

3. In other words, this is still the same issue when reinstalling Windows OS (because Creative Cloud is always installed with the latest version)

4. I've also tried deleting library folders etc to find out the cause of this, and I've told my colleagues as well as me to update the creative cloud version (they mostly use Photoshop 2023)

And Photoshop, which used to work reliably without any problems, will also fail if you install the latest version of the current Creative Cloud.

5. So what I guess is around the version release below.

Version 6.2.0.554 was released on May 10, 2024 (required release)

Improved user interface for viewing and managing pending application updates.
Easily view and manage credits generated from the account menu.
Use application preferences to display or hide recent files from the Home tab.
A recent section of the Home tab has been improved.
For businesses with access to Creative Cloud Edition 4, the Firefly tab has been released exclusively.
In-context purchases have been activated in Creative Cloud for Teams.
Enterprise users with Acrobat privileges can now access cloud-based documents via the Files tab.
Support for Microsoft Visual C++ 12.0 has been discontinued.
Fix bugs and technical improvements.

If you're using a creative cloud before that release, there's no problem at all.

So, this has a lot of influence on causing problems with Photoshop, so I ask for an investigation like this.
Maybe, I think other bugs that were caused by the creative cloud, not by Photoshop, can be identified.

For example, there were a number of strange issues such as the "Could not complete your request Select Subject Classifier model not loaded correctly" bug, the "Can't write new document present file" bug, and the GPU working like it doesn't work properly (it's actually no problem with compatibility checks, it's applied correctly to settings), but we confirmed that the creative cloud is all related.

Therefore, I report this because I think this will affect Photoshop as a result, and will also affect future updates.

Just came over here to say i'm experiencing the same thing. Took almost all the same steps you did too. I even left the programs running, frozen on splash screen, for about 20min. I ended up getting a low memory error asking me to close both Photoshop and Photoshop Beta because they were taking 120gb memory EACH!!
