P: Photoshop Crashing When Opening CR3 Files (32 GB Ram) Windows

Hello I am having massive problems editing pictures I have taken with my new Canon EOS R DSLR camera. I have tried turning off my GPU in PS and Camera Raw but to no avail. I have made sure to update my GPU (RTX 3070) driver and update PS but neither have helped. I'm out of options here, and am hoping anyone can help.

Definitely could be that iCue. We've determined you're the only person hitting this specific crash - and the crash matches a driver crash - so it definitely feels system specific. Try uninstalling that - and see if it makes a difference.

I uninstalled iCue and it seems like it may have helped a little. I do also have Razer Synapse and that is another lighting controller. Should I try uninstalling it too?

Ok I uninstalled the lighting controlling portion of Razer Synapse and another program called Wallpaper Engine that also could mess with lighting. I still crash rather often when opening CR3 files. I also got a crash that just froze the program and I had to close the program using Task Manager which is new.

Hello.

I would like to clarify about the "lighting controller" issue. The fact that we had found a report of a lighting driver which had caused a very similar problem, along with the fact that you actually have one (or more!) lighting controller drivers installed (though not the same one as in the old report) did seem like a promising lead. However be aware that this could be a red-herring... the problem could be due to any driver, though I expect it to be a driver that is not a very common one out in the world (since otherwise more people would be seeing this problem). So there's no need to overly focus on the 'lighting' aspect... it was in my mind merely a reasonable place to start. 

Though it is admittedly a bit of a pain, We recommed a sequence of uninstalling a driver that you can later re-install, restarting your machine (don't skip that step) and then testing for the crash again. The evidence we (Adobe) have reviewed shows that an obscure control value on one of your CPU cores is getting corrupted. A driver bug (in some driver on the system) is the most likely explanation... in fact I encountered this EXACT type of problem happening in a bad printer driver years ago, so though it would seem extremely unlikely, I have actually seen this issue once before.

Other possible explations? Well, it could be an Windows OS bug (VERY VERY VERY unlikely in my opinion) or a faulty CPU (pretty darn unlikely, IMO).

If your are unable to pin down a driver on your system we could explore other ideas to try to find out what is causing this, but those likely won't be simple. So our thinking is that at this point in time, the most efficient way forward would be to follow the advice above to try to determine if some driver installed on the system is causing the problem (uninstall unecessary drivers for now and update any drivers on the machine which you feel are required).

Ok will do over the next day or 2 and see what happens. The only real drivers I have installed are the GPU driver and an audio driver. I don't have a printer so I don't have to worry about that one.

Ok I tried a few of the more obscure drivers that I installed with my motherboard but still no luck. It may be worth noting that I am actually able to open a about 3 or 4 CR3 files fine but then after about the 5th file is when crashes begin happeing.

Ok after checking a few more times I can confirm that Photoshop crashes upon opening every 4th CR3 file currently. I've counted and that sequence has happened about 5 times on my system today. Just forwarding this info.
