P: Program error when trying to use clone stamp tool

Problem started 2 days ago. Only when attempting to use the Clone Stamp tool. Other tools seem OK. I re-installed Photoshop and reset the tool. No benefit. No changes to hardware or software on PC. Error text "Could not complete your request because of a program error". Also cannot dismiss error message. Have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager to close Photoshop.

This seems to have worked for me doing the reset of preferences. Thank you.

Problem resolved by rolling back to Ps 23.3.2. A temporary solution I hope.

When I click on the area to clone, it is giving an error that says could not complete your request because of a program error. But the suggested fix is only for saving files. I have reset the tool and still the same problem.

Try resetting your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings. You can also reset preferences upon a quit if Photoshop is running by going into General Preferences>General>Reset on Quit.

Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear about your program error while using the Clone Stamp tool in Photoshop. We're here to help; we need a few details.

Could you please share the version of Photoshop (Help > About Photoshop) and the version of Windows on your computer? Are you seeing this issue after any recent update? Is it happening with only the Clone Stamp tool or other tools? What is the file type that you're experiencing this with? Can you reproduce this with a new default Photoshop file?
Does rolling back to a previous version help?

Please go to Edit > Preferences > Performance section and uncheck the option "Use Graphics Processor." Restart your Adobe Photoshop and see whether it helps. If it helps, you can check out the steps suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html.
If the issue persists, check out the other solutions.

As suggested, try to reset the tools followed by Photoshop preferences. 
Steps to reset the Tools and Preferences: To reset all the tools at once, right-click on the icon of whatever tool is currently selected in the Tool Options, select "Reset All Tools," and then click "OK," Using the Reset, All Tools option will reset all the tool selections in the Tools bar to their defaults.
You may try to reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps.

I just completed all of the steps listed in the last 3 pages of this forum, none of these solutions stop the error message "Could not complete your request because of a program error" The error comes back when it's dismissed so you have to end the task. The issue isn't fixed Adobe.

I reinstalled version 32.3.2 which solved the problem. I'm no longer going to update automatically.

Ps version 23.5 installed today appears to have fixed the problem.

Re-installing the earlier version PS 23.3.2 solved the clone issued for me. I am returning to my earlier practice of not automatically upgrading any programs when they are available. If it ain't broke don't fix it!
