Hi all,
We are happy to announce the release of Photoshop version 25.2, which incorporates the resolution for this particular problem. To see the list of all fixed issues, click here
I am using 24.6 version. A work around I have discovered for when the remove tool error message appears is to use the spot healing brush on a small spot and then switch to the remove tool. That has eliminated the error message every time.
The 25.0 PS beta has gotten several updates , I have yet to update to the latest , but in the previous 2 updates ( still labelled version 25.0 ) , remove tool is working . And I don't plan to update to the newest ver now I am worried they will break the
As for the launched , 24.7 / 24.6 version , it has never been working in those 2 for ryzen 3000 PCs . So maybe the changes they made in the latest beta has not to the public version yet .
Anyway it looks like you are having a separate issue ( which is the smudge problem ) than those of us who were getting the " PS stop working due to an error " msg . I have read that from reddit some ppl who were smudge problem fixed it by updating to the latest studio driver .
Photoshop v25 (full, not beta) has now been released and the remove tool is now working perfectly for me using a Ryzen 3000 CPU. Thankyou Adobe people. Everyone else now trouble free?
I've also encountered the problem with Remove Brush and Neural Filters not working or crashing PS. Both main and beta. Driving me nuts so decided to spend some time trying to get to the bottom of it. PC Win10 - must uptodate board/proc/gtx4070 32gb etc etc .
Searched all over the internet and read things about windows/performance/re-installing etc etc. Nothing changed the problem for me then I read about holding down ctrl/alt/shift while starting PS (25) which I did. Asked to reset prefs which I did and up popped tutorial - did that ... tried brush and filters and it all workd - Fantastic!. Didn't change anything, exited PS and restarted it. Boom.. Brush and Filter broken again.... Did a quick check on settings and all set to max... Hmmmm...
Then I remembered there was a Windows popup window before PS started asking for permission to run the program... That is the Administrator check.... That's it !!! To run a program as Administrator hold down Ctrl+Shift and start it.
Made no changes to PS - using max graphics and processor...
Start normally - Brush and Filter broken. Run As Administrator - YES - it works every time...
There's the problem and the soluition...... Hope you can try it soon. If it works for you don't forget to reset everything to max performance.
Just a note to add. If you have switched off the Windows RunAsAdmin notifications you'll never see the pop-ups - which of course could explain the great confusion about some people seeing different things. Mine is on which is why I noticed it and it gave me the solution.
Another note: Running PS in Administrator mode and being logged on as "just" a user means that Windows file drag/drop onto PS may not work. The reason is Windows only allows Drag/Drop between programs that are logged in at the same User Level.
Best solution is to restart whatever File Manager program you use as RunAsAdministrator - then they are both the same U.L. and D/D works as 'normal'.
This solution has been a success as far as the 25.0 general release goes. A user will come into Discussions reporting different color strokes or noise when they use the Remove Tool. That suggestion has worked four times already, and works where resets and reinstalls do not.
It seems that a couple of threads discussing the same issue have been combined with this one. If you're wondering why I included a link to my own post within this thread, that's the reason. So, has anyone discovered a solution to this problem yet?
