P: Rubbish Raw Data creates large file sizes

Firstly I'm using photoshop cc2017. But this problem has been around since older versions.

I noticed recently after editing PSD files for a few rounds, most PSD files (even JPG) will end up with a long string of rubbish text in the Raw Data (menu-->file-->file info--> raw data).

Lucky I found a script that can remove the rubbish data manually, from the help of someone in the adobe forum.

The difference it creates are as follows:

• PSD file A with extra rubbish Raw data - greyscale simple icon one layer (file size 30mb)
• PSD file B  clean simple Raw data - greyscale simple icon one layer (file size 938kb)

When creating my flyer in illustrator cc, linking a few of these PSDs (with rubbish data) will cause my illustrator file to perform very slowly. Both when opening and saving the file. Biggest difference I notice is the file size of the .ai file (54mb vs 2.4mb).

Two things:

1. It looks like you're using a modified version of Photoshop. Uninstall what you have an install a non-counterfeit version from Adobe.com.
2. Disable your 3rd party plug-ins by holding down the shift key when launching Photoshop.

I've been experiencing this problem for some time now, from what I can tell it isn't anything we're doing, but exist in images supplied to us by other companies, usually telcos, toy and entertainment companies. My assumption is that some of these companies are using some kind of software, whether it be a DAM, some kind of security software or planning software at their end that tracks an images history and embeds it into the file. The worst part is this RAW data carries through to PDFs created by InDesign, some PDFs even though they are one page and low res, can be over 100MB, every instance of the placed image on a page will multiply the data. I have found a script to strip it out, but it is a pest you can't just simply delete it in Photoshop directly.

This problem resurfaced for me this week with Photoshop, I had this about a year ago too and I was pulling my last remaining 3 hairs out to figure out what was causing this. Lucky that Photoshop is still backwards compatible in some ways, because this is how I found out about the RAW data you mention in your post. My ram was going to 99% and crashing my PC with every cut paste or edit I did. The file wasn't even that large. So I thought, I have a really old copy of CS2 on another machine, lets see what happens when I load it in there. It took a long while but then opened it immediately came up with the warning 'File contains data which Photoshop can't read, and will be ignored'. To my surprise this same file that was previously crashing my PC was behaving super fast. I resaved it as a new file, re-opened it in CC and BAM. Problem gone. It had made my 150 meg file into a 14 meg file.

So I decided to search on the net and came across your post about this. I checked file info on the file in CC and lo and behold! A  140 megs worth of crap data that Photoshop doesn't understand. This explains why some files from certain companies work just fine, but files like this just bog down your PC. 

To be clear. this data copies over even when you copy and paste a section of a photo into another empty PSD file and resave, doesn't matter if it's lasso'd or anything.
So the problem persists in newly created files!

Anyway, to fix this retardation of a problem (thank you photoplop once again ruining our sanity), if you have a copy laying around or know a friend that has photoshop CS2, 3, 4, 5 (before CC) open your file in that, let it run it's course opening the file.
Warning comes up saying 'File contains data which Photoshop can't read, and will be ignored'. Re-save your file as a new file. Your file should now be clear of crap data.

You'd think the option of ignoring sed data would still be there in CC. Looks like they got rid of that. I can't seem to find any way of turning the ignore button on o_o

Thanks Much! Appreciate it. What I can't understand is why this was always a thing in older CS versions, but in CC it just wants to load all the data and not give you the option to ignore it. 1 step forward, 5 steps back I suppose haha
