P: Saving as a copy with Paths/Channels unchecked truncates file names

Hi There-
In our shop file names tend to get really, really long, and we often need to save files out in multiple formats and color spaces, without paths or channels. I've noticed that when you uncheck the Alpha Channels check box, and the save as copy checkbox becomes active the filename gets cut off depending on how long it is to include the "-copy" at the end. I see the logic behind this–not wanting to save over an original–but I find it most useless. I've worked around the problem by including a couple scripts that will remove the paths
and alpha channels
from the files in my actions before saving them, preventing the need to save as a copy in the save dialogue.

However, this is still a nuisance.

I'd like to see a delete alpha channels command in the channels palette, as well as a delete paths command in the paths palette.

Marking this as a problem for now. I'll have QE look into the behavior. It may be an OS Save dialog thing. Are you on Mac or Windows?

This happens most often when running an action that includes a save as command with alpha channels off.

I'm the QE who's looking into this, and so far, I'm unable to reproduce the problem. Which version of Photoshop are you using? Which version of OSX? Could you send me a sample file name that triggers the problem?

Thanks!

It might be going through the "save a copy as" command instead of "save as", and that can truncate the name.

Hi Jeanne-
You can download a zip filehere
here. It contains a couple of PSDs, and an action that I used to save the PSDs into the flattened folder.

I took a look at this, and interestingly, I found it happens when playing back an action, but not when following the exact same steps used when recording the action. I'm not sure if this is as designed or not. Either way I'll go ahead and log this in our bug database.

Yeah, sounds like the action playback goes down the wrong codepath - that's a bug.
