After editing or saving large PSB files (16bit, compressed) chunks of the image are missing or have color banded artifacts.

Here is an example:

RackMultipart2018021691221a5g8-671dcef1-06a8-4185-8177-45e6a07e5ff5-1099352617.PNGRackMultipart2018021691221a5g8-671dcef1-06a8-4185-8177-45e6a07e5ff5-1099352617.PNG

I got 64GB of RAM and tested it to be sure that it hasn't any defects and causes the issue. I cannot complete my work anymore with this issue. Please fix this!

Hi Helmut,

So far I haven't been able to reproduce the color corruption that you're seeing with your files. Would you please share the exact steps that you are taking when you make a pano and you edit it? Are you using Automate > Photomerge? Auto-Align? And then which options do you select as far as Layout and the other options? I assume you choose Blend Images Together, but what  about Vignette Removal, Geometric Distortion Correction, and you already mentioned using Content-Aware Fill but in th...

Hi Helmut,

Is this corruption that you can reproduce? Can you make it happen reliably if you follow the same series of steps? I.e. were you using certain filters, etc.?

Could you do a couple of things for me? Would you:

1. Go to Photoshop > Preferences > Performance and uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" and see if you still see this corruption
2. Go to Help > System Info and then copy and paste the contents of that window here

Thank you,
Hannah

Hi Hannah,

Yes the corruptions are reproducible - they appear always on different parts of the image though and usually happen when I use content aware fill on the image. But they also appear when I used free transform todaty, then saved and reopened the file shown above. BTW Photoshop just crashed multiple times (with GPU en- and disabled) when I tried to reproduce the issue. I sent the crash report with this thread URL attached.

1) After multiple crashes (as described above) while using content aware fill on a big empty patch on one edge I changed my methodology: First transformed the image a little, then used content aware fill again and this time it worked without crash and artifacts. GPU was disabled this time. I saved the file after each step with a different name to be sure not to destroy the original panorama rendering this time. The artifacts are reproducible but appear on random places throughout the image especially when using content aware fill. They do not appear always though.

I had this issue before about a year ago and the only workaround I found was to save the file with different names after using content aware fill, then importing the saved files (with artifacts) as layers to the original file and masking out the artifacts to reveal the original image without those color bands. Unfortunately nothing has changed since then.

Do you want the 6,8GB PSB file to examine the crash? I can reproduce it very easily (GPU en- or disabled)...

Hannah left ill for the day, but yes, if you have a file that reproduces the problem, that would be helpful. Dropbox URL, etc works for us

Please let me know once you downloaded the file so I can delete it from my server!

Steps to reproduce the crash:
1) Use magic wand tool to select the empty area on the top right of the image
2) Use content aware fill on the selected area

Hi Helmut,

I started downloading it, but I don't see it on my machine so I wonder if it was interrupted. I'll start it again now and I'll post here when I have it.

Thank you,
Hannah

Hi Helmut,

So far I haven't been able to reproduce the color corruption that you're seeing with your files. Would you please share the exact steps that you are taking when you make a pano and you edit it? Are you using Automate > Photomerge? Auto-Align? And then which options do you select as far as Layout and the other options? I assume you choose Blend Images Together, but what  about Vignette Removal, Geometric Distortion Correction, and you already mentioned using Content-Aware Fill but in the Photomerge dialog or after?

Since I'm not seeing what you're seeing I want to make sure that I'm replicating your steps exactly.

Thanks!!!
Hannah
