We have a system that cannot save to our Avid Nexis SAN in Photoshop, only save-as. Mac OS X 10.14.6 w/ latest patches.

Steps we do to reproduce:
1. Save or put a PSD (Photoshop) file on any Nexis workspace.
2. Make any change to the file in Photoshop.
3. Save it.

[Evidently, when choosing Save, Photoshop creates a temporary file alongside the original, named e.g. “Adobe Photoshop 20219283749326576223”. Normally, the user would see this file for a fraction if that before it overwrites the main file.]

We get the error: "Could not save ___ because of a program error."
The temp file is created on the workspace, but is not removed and stays there, and the main PSD file is not updated (saved).
Consecutive attempts cause the same behavior and temp files would just pile up.

  • This never happens when saving to local drives, only the Nexis.
  • Other apps and file operations to the Nexis work fine.
  • This mostly occurs if the file was already saved in the last minute or so. So the interval since the last save matters.
  • Tried both Nexis Client 2012.0.9 and latest 2021.8.2.62, same exact behavior.
  • Tried Photoshop 2019, 2021.0, and latest 2021 22.5.3. Same exact behavior.
  • I followed all the steps in this KB article . Same exact behavior.

Can you try placing this PSUserConfig.txt file in your Photoshop Settings folder to see if it helps? 1. Quit Photoshop 2. Save the file as "PSUserConfig.txt" to your Photoshop version settings folder:  macOS: //Users/[User Name]/Library/Preferences/[Photoshop_version]Settings/ 3. Relaunch Photoshop and try saving your file Note: The user Library folder is hidden on macOS. See Access hidden user library files | macOS for more information.

Photoshop 23.02

Macbook Pro 2019 16" 2.3 8 core i9

16GB RAM

I'm unable to save files to a network drive (Synology). I open a file, make a small change, and save. It goes and makes a temp file and fails at 99%. I get an error message. I can rename the file, but I do not need several huge files with minor changes. I used to be able to do this (forever, since Ive been ising Photoshop since 1996), but am no longer able.

Photoshop has full disk access.

Hi

Adobe does not support working directly on the server. It can work until it doesn't.

See this page for details:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/networks-removable-media-photoshop.html

If this was recent then you might check with your IT to see if they made a change to your server.

Since we are a 2 person shop. we didn't make any huge changes.

This seems like the worlds most inefficient wat of working in the world, especially when every other piece of software Adobe makes allows for working this way.

Bump.

Forgot how vigorous the Photoshop forum is... if the thread isn't from the last hour, no one will ever see it again...

I have a query out to the engineering team to see if there are any other things to try.
