Photoshop has no issue detecting my graphics processor on launch and through most prcoesses. However, if I resize a photo or image, there's a brief flash of white and I find that, if I go to Preferences/Performance, the graphics processor is no longer detected. Photoshop runs normally after this - I don't detect any slow-downs, etc. - but this only began happening with the update before last. I've never had this issue before and I've been using the same graphics card for a couple of years now.

Any ideas? My thought is that it's a bug in the latest iterations of the software...

Photoshop's GPU requirements have increased.    If your card is not supported you may need to upgrade your graphics card.   For example Jim's "AMD Radeon R7 250 Series" card is very old and is not supported:   https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cc-gpu-card-faq.html#Unsupportedgraphicscards     It scores less than 700 on this benchmark: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/directCompute.html    More modern cards that have been released in the past year or two that score in the...

I've been getting this issue as well. Doesn't happen all the time but enough to be annoying. When I scale an image up PS forgets I have a GPU and I need to restart the app again. I'm running an RTX 2070 Super, Ryzen 9 3900, 32GB Ram and use NVMEssd's so you would think everything should be nice a snappy and bug free.

Has anyone found a fix to this yet? I'm still getting this issue. Have just resized an image from 1024x1024px to 2056x2056px and it disabled my GPU in Photoshop. Pretty annoying needing to restart PS after everytime I scale an image up...

Can confirm this is also happening to me after upscaling an image GPU acceleration is forced off until reboot of photoshop. Up to date on windows and drivers. I'm on a 64gb ram (3600Mhz) , 2080ti , Ryzen 3900x system.

To clarify, you cannot re-enable gpu acceleration in the same instance (you can toggle it on and off but there will be no effect until photoshop restarts).

marcelo mendes I thought the latest update had fixed the issue as it's been ok since I updated. However it's just happened again! I've got another bug now as well. If I move items that are grouped in a folder they disappear! If I zoom in or out they will reappear, but then go again when I move them. They stay visible when nudging.

Hi all,

Lucy, is that behavior consistently reproducible? Does your document have artboards? If you turn on legacy compositing in the preferences -> performance panel, does it go away?

Mercelo, if you turn off OpenCL in preferences -> performance -> adavanced and then restart Photoshop, does the problem reproduce? Also, is it consistently reproducible?
Also, if you could list the options you're using on the rescale, that would be great.

We're trying to get a handle on this GPU + rescale issue, but haven't yet been able to reproduce it in house.

Thanks,
Chuck.

Hi Chuck, it can be quite random behaviour but it is enough to be a nuisance. After the latest update my PS was fine for a couple of days and had no problems scaling images but today it happened again. Another employee recommended turning off OpenCL which I did a few weeks ago but that has no effect. Today I scaled an image up that was 16000 pixels wide to 20000 wide and it disabled my GPU and PS needed restarting. The size of the image doesn't seem to factor into it though as it happened going from 1024x1024px to 2056x2056px. Image size settings have Resample ticked and is set to Automatic. When it happens the screen flashes white and I get a pop up saying something about GPU features have been disabled. Then if I go to the Performance dialogue box there is no GPU listed.

I've just scaled image up now and this box popped up.

I have an Intel I9 9900K processor, but the processor's integrated gpu is disabled by motherboard bios, so the system only uses Nvidia, and the driver are the latest. I noticed other things: the problem occurs if I use resampling in mode: Automatic (Alt + 1); Preserve Details (enlargement) (Alt + 2); Bicubic Smoother (enlargement) (Alt + 4); Bilinear (Alt+8) and the bug is present ... With all the other resampling methods, the bug DOES NOT HAPPEN ... I tried with Bicubic (smooth gradients) and it works perfectly ...
I cleaned all the GPU and then reinstalled them, but nothing changes.

I also reinstalled the operating system on another disk and tried that one, but the situation is the same...

Please fix it...

P.S. with version 21.1.3.190, it's all ok and bug is not present; with all subsequent releases; the bug is there...

Sorry for my bad English....

Great, Ciccio! I did this and worked perfect when I changed to Bicubic (smooth gradients)!

This has been happening to me for the past couple of updates at least, seemingly more often now. I'm having to restart Photoshop after every resize now.

I have a legion 5i with i710th, 16gb, RTX 2060 and the same thing happening with me, all the time I create a smart object and resize inside of him, photoshop disable my graphic process of nothing, I made many updates to fix this, and the only thing I can do is close and open again the photoshop. But now I know is a photoshop bug, this not possible with so many different configurations happening the same thing. Need a bug fix on this, adobe!

Same problem here. 1050Ti, everything was fine, but I decided to update PS yesterday. A few white flashes, while zooming and it stopped detecting the GPU. Now I don't have a smooth zoom anymore. Reboot does not help. Driver updates does not help.

What is more funny, I can't roll back to the previous PS 21, which worked fine! Why did they do it?

Photoshop's GPU requirements have increased.

If your card is not supported you may need to upgrade your graphics card.

For example Jim's "AMD Radeon R7 250 Series" card is very old and is not supported:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cc-gpu-card-faq.html#Unsupportedgraphicscards

It scores less than 700 on this benchmark: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/directCompute.html

More modern cards that have been released in the past year or two that score in the 2000s and 3000s can be had for $100-$150 (see the same link above)

But, even though photoshop has increased its requirement, this is still an instability bug, just like the others here we have current cards, mine is an RTX 2060 with 6gb, and constantly when I resize files the graphics processor is disabled of nothing, there is no warning.

Coming after so many complaints and just saying that a person has an older card and sending it for support is really a lack of sympathy with its users unless they say it is a bug and they are investigating it and soon there will be a solution something much better.

We need an update to resolve this issue!!!!

Rupert, we're working on an OpenCL problem with Nvidia cards. Please turn off OpenCL in preferences->performance->advanced. Does this fix the falling out of GPU on the main campus issue after a resize?

Someone gave me a tip that worked for me: on Image Size window, I changed the Resample to "Bicubic (smooth gradients)". Never had this problem again.

I reinstalled the OS to W10 64, worked for a week and then it happened again. Luckily, now I can repair it somehow. So I made a few rounds of breaking and fixing it and found a little trick to avoid the problem. May work for some of us, but not for all, I guess.

I frequently use VLC along with Ps and it usually loses GPU with it. I changed the codecs in VLC from automatic to Direct 3D11 and never seen any problem since then. I think, Ps trying to share some GPU drivers with video app, failing and gives up.
