P: Vibrance panel doesn't support "zero" when sliding

map-2.gif

Just updated to Photoshop 27.1.0 because I wanted to see the "modern GUI panels" as stated in the release notes.

First thing I noticed was (besides the GUI drag-icon inconsistentcy between panels like, vibrance and levels), that "0" is not selectable when using the vibrance panel.

When you slide from left to right - and vice versa - zero is not an option; it's skipped.

Other panels, like levels, do support 0 as a valid value (as does the keyboard), but when using the mouse to quickly slide to a + or - integer, 0 is simply skipped.

I checked in Photoshop 26.x.x and there "0" was an option in the exact same panel.

See screenrecording, where I try to set the value to 0 by mouse. It's only possible by keyboard (arrow up and down).

@Sawiro Takoni I just tested on my system, and it's working fine for me with Photoshop version 27.1 on Windows 11, try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset

Will try, thanks!

I started with Photoshop 2.0 in 1993 I think. So my preferences are all chained to eachother since then 🙂

Well, for me it's still not working.

To be clear: I can't select 0 when purely using the mouse in both the vibrance or saturation slider.

I can do using the numeric keyboard or the up/down arrows, but not when only using the mouse.

When I fiddle around with the keyboard (entering 0 manually, using the arrowkeys to adjust the parameter) I can get -0 (negative zero) and after a while (when 0 is set by the keyboard) also using the mouse.

It works fine here in Windows 11, but if you are having that problem a shortcut to return the slider to 0 is to double click the slider with with the mouse.

Thanks for the headsup!

I know about the "shortcut" to restore all parameters to the integer /  numeric defaults.

But I also think it's odd that you are not able (in my case) to "select" when sliding, where -0 is available (which should trigger a stack overflow, I think).

Hi @Sawiro Takoni,

Thanks for the detailed explanation and for sharing the screen recordings. I just checked this on my side on macOS with Photoshop 27.1 and 27.2, with Modern UI enabled under Preferences > Technology Previews, and the Vibrance/Saturation sliders behave as expected. I’m able to land on 0 using only the mouse without it being skipped.

Since this seems specific to your setup, a couple of things you can try next:

• As davescm mentioned, double-clicking the slider will reliably reset it to 0 as a workaround
• Try resetting the eyedropper tool

• If you’re using any custom UI scaling or input-device utilities (mouse/driver software), temporarily disable them and test again

Given that this worked correctly in 26.x and still works on other systems in 27.x, this may be a local preference or input-handling edge case rather than intended behavior.

I appreciate you calling this out; details like this are exactly what help improve the Modern UI rollout.

Best regards,
Anshul Saini

Thanks for the quick response!

It's not a big problem, maybe I am the only one in the world with this issue 🙂

I did reset Photoshop and the eyedropper tool, but that didn't help.

Disabling the Modern UI did help! I was able to select the 0.

But when reverting back to the Modern UI, the bug was there again; no zero when sliding with the mouse.

Like I said; not a big problem, I use shortcuts since about 1993 when I started using the software.

But it's odd I don't have a 0 here, but do have negative zero (which acts as zero in the parameters).

I'll update to 27.2 and see if anything changes.

Lol, I discoverd something.

When turning the Modern GUI off, I can select 0 without any problems.

But I also discoverd something else;

  • Open the vibrance panel, immediatly start sliding with the mouse
  • Now I can't select 0 - it goes from -1 to 1 and ignores the 0 (zero).
  • BUT...
  • ...when I start sliding, and release the mouse button (so the slider is not pressed)...
  • ...AND...
  • ...start sliding again (where I left of) I am able to select 0 (zero) without troubles!

So maybe it has something to do with the initial focussed state, when I start sliding without any keyboard / mouse-click interupts.

Thank you for taking the time to investigate this and for clearly documenting the behavior, @Sawiro Takoni. That level of detail is genuinely helpful. The workaround you discovered is valid and explains why the behavior appears inconsistent.

I’ve tested this as well and can see similar nuances when moving between negative and positive values in the Modern UI. Thank you for continuing to test and providing your feedback.

I’m passing your findings, including the exact interaction sequence you described, to the product team so they can review it as part of the Modern UI rollout. This is the kind of edge-case feedback that helps tighten things up.

If you do get a chance to test on 27.2 and notice any change, feel free to update the thread.

Thanks again for the thorough investigation and for sticking with it.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi,

Yeah, this bug is weird 🙂

The issue is not that I can't select zero / 0 without adding a manual interrupt, but the fact I can get -0

-0 is a non existing interger and can lead to memory loss and overflow (which is not the case here, but it can be dangerous).

So maybe the issue has another, more low-level, cause? It has something to do with Modern UI 2.0 I think, because when I turn it off, everything works well.

For your information: I already did update to Photoshop 27.2.0 and that's also where I created my last screenrecording (with the fix, when you stop sliding, click somewhere and remain sliding).

Well, it's fun to debug the thing since I am using Photoshop since +/- 1993.

I even work in old Photoshop 5.5 nowadays, which act perfectly fine and is still registered to my nickname when I was a student... once 🙂
