Issue: Floating windows do not resize on zoom.
Photoshop version: 23.5.0
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise 10.0.19044, dual monitors.

Steps to reproduce:
Delete all preferences.
Restart PhotoShop.
Preferences: Workspace: Untick Open Documents as Tabs
Preferences: Tools: untick Overscroll, tick Zoom Resizes Windows
Open any image file.

Expected result: Window resized to zoom level.
Actual result: Window almost full screen, without the ability to manually resize it using the grab handle.

Hi all

I updated to PhotoShop 23.5 about a week ago, and have a niggling issue that I can't find a solution for.

I always open files as floating windows as I frequently have a lot of small images open at once and find it more convenient to navigate via the list at the bottom of the 'Window' menu.

I've been accustomed to the windows resizing with zoom, but that seems to have changed since the last update. I can zoom in and out of the image without issue but the windows all remain the same size, so there's a lot of blank background coloured space around each one.

I've looked through (and tried a lot of) the available and relevant preference options but without joy. It's a small issue, I know, but I liked my setup the way it was and it might just be a case of terminology I'm missing.

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

Mo

Just to make sure: Is Photoshop > Preferences > Tools > Zoom Resizes Window checked or not?

If the setting is thus but Photoshop does not behave accordingly it might be time for broad all-purpose trouble-shooting …

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

Thank you, I'll try that and let you know if it makes any difference.

It won't be immediate but I'll post the results as soon as I have a quiet moment to concentrate on it. Not too long, hopefully.

Just make sure to have all your custom presets securely stored.

For others who see this, weird UI issues that do not clear up by resetting prefs can sometimes be fixed by resetting your workspace.

Hi again

I'm disappointed to have to post this, after thinking that my issues were sorted out. Each time I reboot my PC the quirky behaviour starts again. If I reset the preferences, it temporarily repairs but then reverts to the odd unsizable floating windows on reboot.

<sigh>

Suggestions, please?

OK, a bit of experimentation but I still haven't found the cause or the cure.

Recreating my Workspace doesn't help.

Resetting prefs doesn't help (I was too quick to celebrate)

This all started when the last update occurred, nothing else (Windows 10 updates etc) has happened.

How do we proceed?

You can try going to

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2022

and delete the

Adobe Photoshop 2022 Settings folder

(first take any saved Workspaces out so you can restore them later)

If you can reliably recreate the issue you may want to post a bug report.

There is no guarantee you’ll get feedback from the Photoshop team but it will be registered at Adobe.

And bugs that affect only a small number of users might simply not be attended to.

Thanks, I tried that just now, still hasn't worked.

I'm going to try reporting it as a bug, let's see if I have any joy.

Thank you, I'll try that now as everything else has failed and I think I can reproduce it quite reliably.

Cheers

Forgot to add:

Window: Arrange: Float All In Windows

and

Window: Workspace: Photography

This works correctly (as expected) when I use Edit: Preferences: General: Reset Preferences On Quit

but only once - if I close PS and reopen it the odd quirkiness begins and I can't rezise on zoom or drag/resize windows by the corner grab handle.

Yesterday, I reported it as a bug but this morning I thought I'd try reverting to the previous version 23.4.2

The bug is no longer happening, in fact, I can't make it happen now. So I'm sticking with this version until the next update (probably) because I can work the way I like to at the moment, at least.

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

Thanks for starting this bug problem.  I too am having problems and not finding any help.  I got a new computer and when I loaded creative cloud back up I was at 23.5 version.  so many different issues and not liking the new learning curve.  I will keep an eye on the Mo Warden.

Hi Kathy

I've just tried the latest update (23.5.1) and my problem is still there. I went to the Creative Cloud Desktop app and clicked the 3 dots after the 'Open' bubble next to Photoshop, and from there I chose 'Other versions'. In that list, I chose 'Photoshop (23.4.2)' and then 'Install' to roll back to an earlier release. That one works for me.

Good luck with your issues!

Just installed 23.5.2 and it's still happening.

Reverted to 23.4.2 and it stops.

So much for bug fixes.

Hi, are you rescaling all images at the same time with shift held down?

Could you post some videos of the issue?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

No, without shift. Each individual floating window does the same thing.

Unfortunately I'm at work at the moment, but I'll see what I can rustle up later on!
