What you mean by " but goes of"? It deselects Type tool or you can not see cursor anymore? Try reseting Window > Character panel or change leading settings (red rectangle on my screenshot).
Which Enter are you using — the one on the alphabetic keypad or the numeric keypad? Try with the alphabetic keypad.
Are you using Point text (click and type) or Paragraph text (drag and type) Try Paragraph text to create a text frame and resize it larger (Type tool) when needed
