Photoshop 2025 - Gradient tool controls missing

Using the Gradient tool, I can click and drag a gradient on a layer or layer mask, however the controls that allow the gradient to be adjusted and repositioned do not show.

This is the same whether 'Gradient' or 'Classic Gradient' is selected.

If I want to adjust the gradient I have to draw a completely new gradient until a get a gradient that I like, there is no way to adjust or reposition a gradient as the gradient controls (if they are there) are not visible.

This is on an M1 Mac running Sonoma 14.6.1, Photoshop 26.2.0

Can you see if "View Extras" is turned off? It seems when it's off, the Gradient Tool controls are also disabled.

Hi View Extras is on, that’s View from the Toolbar, then ‘Extras’, I tried switching that on and off , no change.

The Layer Mask is visible and selected in the Channels Panel, but I am clicking on the Mask in the main layers panel…

Hi @Dave Eagle!

Another thing we can try is checking if "Use Graphics Processor" is enabled in Preferences. Can you test the gradient tool with that option turned on and off? If it still doesn't work, please share your System Info. You can find it under Help > System Info. Just copy the info to a text file and attach it to your response.

View Extras is on, that’s View from the Toolbar, then ‘Extras’, I tried switching that on and off , no change.

View menu > Extras will hide/show anything that is enabled in View menu > Show. Can you take a quick look look there, just to be sure?

Hi Jane, I am using Photoshop 26.2.0, on a Mac running Sonoma 14.6.1. In Photoshop View>Extras is Ticked, when I go into View>Show>Show Extras Options all available options are ticked (which includes Edit Pins). When I draw a gradient on a mask, there are no Edit Pins shown, so the only option I have is to keep redrawing a gradient until I get one that I can use. Using Cmd&H to toggle View Extras makes no difference, still no gradient repositioning controls appear. I have just tried all this again, if you can thinkj of anything else to try, please let me know.

Swift update, I have updated Photoshop to 26.3 and its still the same. However, on a different MacBook that I have, on 26.3, I can see the Gradient controls, the other Macbook is on Seqouia, but I am not willing to upgrade my main macbook as I had some non-compatible driver warnings for logitech and possibly a few oither things in the upgrade process, and there doesnt seem to be a log provided of the exceptions thrown during the upgrade process.
