Photoshop has been freezing ever since the New Year

Thought I might bring this issue here, as this has been happening for 3 months now. Roughly starting around the new year, Photoshop has been freezing on me frequently. Like I'll be in the middle of something and then the program will freeze, and usually this happenes, auto recovery doesnt work as well as it does if my pc were to shut off unexpectidly or if photoshop were crash and give me an error report. As an artist who uses photoshop to draw their comic, this has been extremely annoying as I have lost progress because of it.

Inititally, I had thought it was because of the update that had happened in Decemeber. Before then, Photoshop was reletively stable, and freezes like this would only happen once in a while. I reverted it to the update before the December one back in Feburary and for a while, that seemed to do the trick. Until this week that is, where since Wednesday it crashed 5 times on me, 2 of them actually happening today within hours of each other. Its been very aggrivating for me and I wanted to ask you guys for your thoughts. At this point, I dont know how to stop this, if it can be stopped.

Please try to disable the option to "Use Graphics Procesor" from Photoshop by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

If you're unable to access Preferences and PhotoShop crashes before that, please go to the location C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop xxxx. Then rename the Sniffer.exe to Old.Sniffer.exe and try launching Photohsop again.

If the issue persists, you can try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here:

Please backup your settings before resetting the preferences. You can check:

Migrate presets, actions, and settings (adobe.com)

Another try it to turning on the option »Deactivate Native Canvas« (Photoshop > Preferences > Technology Previews) and restarting Photoshop.

Are you sending the crash reports and including your Adobe ID email with every crash? Adobe staff (who are on this forum) read these and can see why you are getting the crashes.

I would if a crash report screen popped up whenever it crashed but it doesnt. When it freezes it wont close unless I force quite it using task manager, @jane-e. Is there another way I can send crash reports to adobe?

Bonjour à tous ceux qui liront ce message.

Je pense qu’Adobe subit une vague de mauvais fonctionnements inhabituels. Comme je n’utilise que les fonctions photo de Photoshop, j’ai l’impression d’être moins impacté que ceux qui font de la création.

Je constate plusieurs anomalies qui me gênent : le problèmes des règles et des repères qui en découlent, l’outil Correcteur localisé qui marche nettement moins bien qu’il y a au moins deux version, entre autres.

D’une façon plus générale, je constate depuis très longtemps que d’une version à l’autre des releases, des outils ont un fonctionnement fluctuant, un peu comme si les modifications, qui sont, je pense exécutées par plusieurs personnes différentes, voire par des équipes différentes n’étaient pas généralisées entre les personnes ou les équipes. Et, d’une version à l’autre, les travaux d’amélioration sont perdus.

Donc : je pense à cette solution pour résoudre bien des problèmes : il devient nécessaire, à mon sens, que le logiciel Photoshop fasse preuve d’une relecture complète, chez toutes les équipes de développement, pour que tout le monde soit au même niveau. Je n’ai pas constaté les mêmes problèmes sur Lightroom. Mais, j’imagine que c’est pareil.

Il n’y a rien de plus désagréable que de s’habituer au fonctionnement d’un outil qui a évolué, de constater qu’il a été nettement amélioré et de constater quelques temps plus tard qu’on revient à une version d’il y a 1 mois ou 1 an en arrière.

Alors, Chez Adobe, faites un grand nettoyage de printemps (on y arrive, profitez-en !), et remettez toutes les versions internes des vos logiciels à jour avec les meilleures versions de chacun des outils, chacune des procédures, etc.

En fait, on a l’impression que des équipes ou des personnes ont changé et que, comme le font tous les jeunes qui se croient au-dessus des autres, effacent les travaux des personnes qu’ils ont remplacées, sans faire cas de tout l’historique qui a mené à proposer des solutions efficaces.

Merci à Adobe de revoir le fonctionnement des collaborateurs de chaque logiciel dans ce sens.

Goto NVIDIA Studio Driver | 528.49 | Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11 | NVIDIA 

Download the latest version of the Studio driver and install this version.

Thanks for the download link @Axel Matt! Wouldnt have figured out my graphics card needed a never driver update without it.

I cant difinitively say weather or not that fixed the issue at this moment. I guess the only way I would find out is see if Photoshop will freeze or not. I'll give it a week before I can give an update, unless it crashes in that time frame. I'll also try the "disable use graphics processor" option you suggested in your initial post. Havent had the chance to try it yet
