Photoshop merge program error dialog box

I am having  a continuous issue when trying to merge layers in photoshop. A program error dialog box appears.

I have read through many forums from people with similar issue and have tried the remedies to try and fix it without sucess.

I am running Photoshop 24.3 on a mac studio with OS Monterey

The issue occurs when trying to run a batch of files through a droplet that merges a bunch of layers together and saves the files to another location.

Before anyone asks, I have tried to do the merge manually by opening a single file and hitting command E, and by highlighting the layers and right clicking to merge layers. The same error appears

This is something that has never happen before updating beyond version 22.0

Surely there's a fix? Why has Adobe not done anything abou this? Do they expect people to have to roll back to an earlier version to find a stable working environment? Maybe stop releasing new features and fix the many issues first!!

In the meantime I would appreciate any help from the community

Cheers

Hi @defaultj60hjj5qax23 could you share some screenshots of what the error boxes you are seeing are?  Does this happen with all files, some..?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Thank you,
Cory

I cannot share a screen grab of my system info as I am working on a company computer and cant share stuff like that.

But I can say that I am working on a Mac studio with M1 Max chip, and 64BG RAM, OS 12.6.5

Since I posted I have rolled back to Photoshop 22.2.0 to try and resolve the issue but that hasn't worked either

The error occurs only to some images too which is very frustrating as the batches of images I work with have identical layers, groups, and layer/group names etc..

I can also say that when running the same batch of files through the same droplet on my old computer (2020 imac 27'), this issue does not occur. Nor does this issue occur when I've asked colleagues on other computers.

@defaultj60hjj5qax23

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Restore your preferences using this manual method:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

Thank you,
Cory

Yes I have done a complete refresh of my preferences and that didn't work. The frustrating thing is that it happens to some files but not others. I have inspected the files and have found the error ones to be identical (other than the image)

Thank you for the update. Without more information or the files that are at issue or a screenrecording it is very hard to be able to tell what might be happening.  It sounds like a certain file/type is what is causing this but again without the ability to see that file to test, we are stuck.

Thank you,
Cory
