Selecting a recently used brush size issue (last person who tried to help ghosted me)

Up until recently, whenever I switched from one brush to another using the 'recent brushes' box within the 'Brushes' panel, the brush I switched to maintained the size at which I was last using it. Now,  whenever I pick a recent brush, it converts to the size of the brush I just used. I have to keep resizing my brushes every time I switch back and forth. This is slowing down my workflow and it's driving me nuts. This is a huge issue for me as an illustrator.

As an example: let's say I am using Brush A at 10 px, and I switch to the previously used Brush B, which I was using at 50 px. Picking Brush B from within the 'recents' strip resizes B's tip automatically to 50 px (the size I was using it at before using A). This is what used to happen, and it is also exactly what I want.

Currently, the strip (misleadingly) still visually reflects the size that each recent brush was at before switching to the current one. However, now when I switch from A to B, it remains the same size. As in, when I switch from A to B, B's new size is 10 px instead of 50. Same as A. Because of this, whenever I switch between different recent brushes I have to resize them manually Every. Single. Time.

A and B are different brushes; I'm using them for different purposes. There is a reason why I want B to be 50 px when I switch back to it. What is the point of the recent brushes strip if the size of the current brush carries over to the one I want to switch back to? What happened to this simple and extremely useful feature?

I already tried resetting the brush tool several times now to no effect. I do not want to simply make a new brush preset with "capture brush size in preset" checked off. That would not fix my problem. I would STILL have to keep resizing that brush manually every time that I want it to be a size other than the preset one. I tried resetting the tool already.. I reset all my preferences several times. There is no difference between when I select a brush from the Brushes panel, or the brush tool options bar drop down menu. PLEASE do not suggest that I make new brushes with their sizes captured in their presets. That does not fix my problem. That just creates the same problem through different means.

Selecting my brushes from the 'Brush Settings' panel is also not a viable solution for multiple reasons. For one, if I do so, the brushes revert to the default size in their settings. I still have to keep resizing them.

I already went so far as to completely uninstall and reinstall Photoshop.

I’m attaching a diagram of the A vs B example.
